MPE Weekly Roar
October 22, 2021
A Message From Principal Dolan
Good afternoon MPE Families,
We had another great week! Picture Days and a Halloween Boutique made this week extra-special!
Thank you to the MPE for hosting our parents of K and Grade 1 students on Monday night. MPE families are the best. Your enthusiasm, commitment to education and willingness to get involved mean so much to me.
An important part of our school day is ensuring that our children are reading and writing every day. We are proud of the work our students are doing. Please remind them to read at least twenty minutes each day at home.
Parents, please take a few minutes out of your busy schedule to thank your child's teacher. The first few weeks of school have been very rewarding yet posed some challenges. Teachers are working to building community in their classrooms, differentiate instruction, teach rigorous lessons, implement a new schedule, give extra TLC to our children as we reestablish routines and teach our children about SEL (social emotional learning), Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We are very fortunate at MPE to have such a professional, dedicated staff and faculty.
We continue to teach our students about their identity, being proud of who they are and how important it is to work together regardless of our differences. We continue to focus on building an inclusive community where all are valued, respected and welcome. Our Community Meetings were a lot of fun and helped our children to forge relationships with others. Please see the note from Mrs. Galluzzo on Wednesday if you would like more information.
On Monday, October 25th, we will send out the sign-up forms for the Parent Teacher Conferences which will take place virtually on the afternoons of November 1, 2 and 3.
As always, thank you for your partnership in education.
MPE Equity Team
Our MPE Equity Team met this week. We strive to ensure that ALL students are learning and growing while feeling valued and included. This includes ensuring our students feel empowered to be up-standers. The district is working with Greater Schools Partnership and MPE is lucky to have Moises Nunez as our consultant.
For more information, please review the website: https://www.greatschoolspartnership.org/team-member/moises-nunez/
Our MPE Equity team is currently refining our goals. At our first meeting of the year, Mo from Greater Schools Partnership facilitated meaningful conversations a few of the topics we discussed were the importance of diverse literature in all classrooms, as well as training on empathy and inclusion. Mr. Diegnan is serving as our team leader while Mrs. Kelner is on maternity leave.
If you are interested in learning more about this team that meets monthly, please send me an email at ldolan@livingston.org
A Message From Our School Counselor: Red Ribbon Week and More...
Our MPE Lions are so excited for next week as we will be participating in Red Ribbon Week! We celebrate Red Ribbon Week to affirm our commitment to live drug free! We will celebrate those who live without drugs as well as those who choose to leave drugs behind and live drug free. Our amazing students will have the opportunity to learn lessons based on peer pressure, safety, and responsibility all while staying drug free. A huge thank you to our PTA on celebrating Red Ribbon Week with us by supplying bracelets to our students. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated during the last week of October and will be October 25th-October 29th. Our theme this year is “Drug Free Looks Like Me!” Each day students will be invited to participate in dress-up theme days; they are as followed:
Monday - Don't Let Drugs Find You! - Wear Camo
Tuesday - Peace Out to Drugs - Wear Tie-Dye
Wednesday - Drug Free Looks Like Me - Wear Red
Thursday - Team Up Against Drugs - Wear Your Favorite Sports Apparel
Friday - Say BOO to Drugs! - Wear your Halloween Costume or School Spirit
We are so proud and excited to announce MPE will be hosting a BMX Assembly Show on November 3rd! This amazing assembly will kick-off our November break by teaching our students about positive motivation, anti-drug education, and an anti-bullying program! We will have two assemblies for students to be able to have an opportunity to see this great show and we can’t wait! A huge thank you to our awesome PTA for helping us make this event happen!
Miss Galluzzo is so excited to be part of the MPE family this school year! If you would like to contact Miss Galluzzo for your child’s needs please call 972-535-8000 x6900 or email her at dgalluzzo@livingston.org.
Fridays are Spirit Days at MPE
Ordering Lunch
I recommend that you talk to your children about the lunches you are ordering for them to ensure that they like the selection before you order it.
Thank you so much. There is no lunch served on half days so the form will not be opened on the evening of Sunday, October 24th as the week of November 1 is three half days and we are off on November 4th and 5th.
