Next Generation Science Standards
Implementing Science Standards
Schools have yet to implement the new Next Generation Science Standards. Some schools have not begun to discuss the new standards and are still using older textbooks. California is one of 13 states that chose to adopt these new standards. These standards are supposed to be similar to Common Core where it challenges students to analyze and think critically.
Futrue Plans
Few districts have plans to implement Next Generation Science Standards. Some districts have a multi-year plan for adopting the standards that were accepted in September 2013. These standards are supposed to be similar to Common Core where it challenges students to analyze and think critically.
Personal Reflection
It is a little surprising that the "powers that be" can give teachers new standards to teach without any sort of formal training. It is even more surprising that most districts do not have plans to adopt these new standards and are using old textbooks. It is hard to get everyone on the same page but it would be nice to receive some training on effective ways to implement new standards
