December 2nd AMSHS Weekly Update
Building independent lifelong learners.
Principal's Corner
It's been a busy couple weeks for us. We hope you had a great time celebrating Thanksgiving with your family and loved ones. There is so much to be thankful for and we want you to know how thankful we are for your partnership and support.
It's that time of year again and this year, flu season has a brought a few other illnesses with him. Please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and is taking healthy steps to stay well. If they have a fever above 100, they need to stay home. Make sure if your child is sick, you call the office to let us know.
The Albany tournament was this week and we are so grateful to everyone who showed up to lend a helping hand and support our students. It means a lot to see you and your families in the stands so we encourage all of you to come out and cheer on the Warriors this basketball season.
GO WARRIORS!

Hey Warriors!
Welcome back; I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Break!
Here are a few things coming up and updates:
We have wrapped up November; there were a lot of students nominated for displaying the character trait of Citizenship this month. Our winners were Brennan Valenti, Kyleen Roush, and Clayton Griffin. Congratulations and keep up the good work!
Other students who were nominated were: Dylan Anthony, Brittany Lane, Shae Miller, Jordyn Sterkis, Jarrett Smith, Conlan Newman, Chloe Wilson, Braxton Holcomb, Porter Runnels, Vance Parmenter, Seth Miller, Evan Sterkis, Destiny Harville, Lukas Angle, Roque Valderrama, and Jeric Bernacchi.
December’s character trait is compassion; caring for others with kindness. Even though we have a shorter month, we hope that lots of students are participating in the character trait of compassion.
Food Drive:
It is a great time to give back! Albany MS and HS are participating in a food drive; donations will go to the local food pantry. This is a class competition as well; the grade with the most items will win a hot chocolate and donut party. This food drive will last until December 16th. On the second floor landing area, students may set their items under their grade level sign. Totals will be counted each day.
Seniors:
Next week, we have a representative from Missouri Western coming to visit at 3pm on December 8th. This was rescheduled (was originally the 2nd).
Be sure to fill out the FAFSA if you haven’t already, if you are planning to attend college or another accredited postsecondary institution.
Scholarships:
I am preparing packets of scholarship applications for students to take home over Christmas break. There are a few that will not be available until after we return, but these packets should give students a head start at completing applications.
The Hagan Scholarship’s due date has changed from Dec 1st to January 15th. This scholarship can be accessed via this link: https://haganscholarships.org/application/
The Grace Scholarship is due December 16th, 2022. If you need another application, I have more.
Correction to the Gentry County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship: The deadline is January 5th. Students who are pursuing a career/education in agriculture are eligible to apply. Students may pick up an application from my office.
Dual Credit Students:
Almost everyone has turned in their enrollment forms for next semester dual credit courses. If you haven’t, please do so asap. If you have not brought in payment for next semester, that will need to be turned in before dual credit courses begin on January 10, 2023. Checks can be made out to Albany R-III as MO Valley bills the school.

Important Information About Student Academics
Attendance letters for Monday School were mailed home this week. Students who do not have a high enough attendance are required to attend Monday School to receive credit. We will have two 4 hour blocks of Monday school on 12/5, and 12/12. Students must sign up to attend. Parents can call the office for more information and to scheduling.
Attendance is an important part of academic success. We require 90% attendance to be eligible but there is an appeals process if something unforeseen were to occur. Letters were sent home today for students who are not eligible because of attendance. For more information on this, please talk to your child's coach or call the office.
The following dates 1st semester. You will be notified if there are concerns. There are tutoring options available. If you have any questions about grades, please contact your child's teacher.

Students who have more than 3 missing assignments could serve lunch detention so they can work on missing assignments.
Per our handbook policy, after the 6th tardy, students will serve an after school detention. Please see the disciplinary section of the handbook for more information about our tardy policy.
Tardy letters were given to students with excessive tardies. We did not enforce tardy policies firmly 1st Quarter so the students could have time to adjust, but we will 2nd Quarter. Please see the handbook for more information on our tardy policy and disciplinary action.
