``````NEW NEWS ``````
New "Contact Us" Button!
You will now see a “Contact Us” tab on your websites. This is a new district software application that enables us to track questions, concerns, suggestions, compliments, response times, and customer service sentiment. At the current time, only district department staff are involved in monitoring/responding to submissions. We added this tab to all websites because it provides an anonymous way for individuals to report safety concerns. These submissions are routed to a district team as critical alerts. The district will market this anonymous reporting option, along with other short-term safety/security action plans under discussion, following our second Community Conversation about Public Safety at 5:30p.m. on March 26 at Free State High.
Redesign
How does Redesign mesh with our new Strategic Plan?
As we further develop the strategic plan actionable items will need to be flexible enough to encompass both formal and informal redesign shifts. Additionally, as we reviewed the areas that have arisen in the strategic plan, they have all aligned with the KESA goals. Since KESA will eventually morph into redesign we know that the tenants of KESA are necessary for school accreditation. Redesign wouldn’t eliminate core structures, but rather provide them differently. The interesting thing is that many of the redesign teams are visiting a few schools in Lawrence already because they are doing these things already. A good example would be project based learning giving students relevant experimental learning experiences to master the state standards.
School Redesign - From Kyleigh Edwards
I want to share some more resources with you about the Redesign Project. These were compiled with the help of Mena Hill and Sarabeth. I personally am very excited about the possibility of changing our schools for the better and really hope that you will consider this opportunity. The first survey sent out by Laurie is to find out how prepared our school is to take this step and a follow up vote will take place starting on March 6th. Please come talk to Sarabeth or me about this if you have more questions or are interested in a discussion about it.
District deadlines:
- The survey will be available to complete for all staff who are .5 to full time FTE from Feb. 12-19.
- Schools will be given the results of these surveys by February 28.
- Each certified staff member will then be given the opportunity to vote from March 6-20.
- Those schools who have at least 80% of their members indicating they approve joining in the process will then fill out an application form.
- On April 16, the Apollo schools will be announced.
Please come talk to Sarabeth or me about this if you have questions or are interested in a discussion about it. Also, please share this with any certified staff who I might have missed.
Thank you!
Strategies for talking to Children About Race
Join Hilary Beard for a 60-minute live webinar on March 14. Text "RISE" to 38470 to register. Beard offers strategies to any parent of color or parent to children of color for discussing race without depleting the spirit of youth. She teaches strategies to teach children to utilize when they are in duress due to racial tension.
Committee Updates
Specials Committee Meeting:
· The Specials Committee finalized Option #1 which proposes a full team of specials teachers and media specialist at every elementary building. (20 section full time allotment). Not all committee members agree that this should be a budget priority.
· This proposal requires a budget enhancement. A budget request will be drafted and submitted to the budget committee for consideration.
