Hello Middle School Families,
The end of the first semester is Friday, January 19th. All academic grades and work habit expectations will be updated and posted into Infinite Campus parent portal by the end of the day on January 23rd. Please take a few minutes with your child to review their academic progress over the past quarter. We look forward to successes throughout the second semester and greater success where improvements are needed.
Were you aware that at the high school and middle school departments have worked collaboratively to implement the following grading and assessment practices in all classrooms:
Common Assessments: What does this mean? It means all assessments in any course are identical, are administered in the same way, and are weighted identically in gradebooks.
Grading is completely aligned for anyone teaching the same courses.
We have all reviewed the impact zeros can have on a grade. For example if a student has one 0% on a graded assignment, they need seventeen 90% grades on equally waited assignments to bring their average up to an 85%.
Extra credit has been eliminated. Extra credit inflates grades and misrepresents what a student may actually know.
Thank you for taking a few moments to read the information below regarding Applied Arts night, the Second Step Bullying and Harassment Unit, Summer School, and more.
As always, if you ever have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Healthy and Safe Hygiene
Part of middle school is learning about and keeping up with good hygiene care. We share information with our students regularly about healthy hygiene. Please help us reiterate these helpful tips with your child:
Helpful tips on staying hygiene healthy:
Shower daily, or more frequently as needed
When showering use soap, or body wash and make sure and get all of your body parts
Apply an underarm deodorant, especially after showering, before PE class, and/or even before practice
Wash your face at least twice a day to decrease oily skin and help prevent acne
Brush and floss your teeth twice daily
