Notes from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Happy Valentine’s Day! Our students participated in our (rescheduled) Souper Bowl of Caring, and they enjoyed some modified football inside our gymnasium while raising over $1,000 to support the Union County Homeless Shelter! Just before we kicked off our games, Deputy Andrade and I discussed with each grade level some safety procedures and proactive measures to help keep our school safe. We reminded students about Code 500/Lockdown protocols, and directed them to stay calm upon hearing the signal, to listen and adhere to teacher/staff directives, and to remain behind a locked door until we can signal an “all clear.” Deputy Andrade reiterated my comments, and emphasized general safety procedures as well. There are no immediate safety concerns at our school.
We touched on social media and the consequences for some of those lingering posts and commentaries that can get kids (and adults) in trouble, and encouraged your children to stay positive, to keep our school both safe and clean (cafeteria and restrooms were points of emphasis), and to “say something” if and when they see or hear something that warrants adult intervention. Students listened attentively and we segued into good times for a good cause with our Souper Bowl Tournament.
Thanks to our PTSO for helping us “Love the Bus” this week, and join me in appreciating our bus drivers ALL year long! As part of our reschedule from last Friday’s inclement weather, PTSO also delivered some Panera soup for teachers to enjoy during lunch on Tuesday. Each afternoon this week (weather permitting), we have also taken off with our Athletic Booster Club and the start of another spring sports season. SO much good stuff, but still so little time….
Students today are bringing home perhaps our last major push for the fall edition of The Wildcat Word, our inaugural literary magazine. Produced by students for students, it’s a uniquely Weddington piece of memorabilia, and there will only be ONE first edition. Get yours before they’re gone!
School is closed to students on Monday as teachers hold a workday, but we’re open in the office from 8am-3pm. Happy Friday, enjoy the holiday, and we wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Absence/Early Dismissal
Parents, if your child will be leaving school early, please send a note to the homeroom teacher with the dismissal time. Students who leave before or arrive after 12:15 pm will be marked absent for the day. There are no dismissals allowed after 3:15 pm. If you send a note for your student to be in the office at 3:00 pm and you arrive after the 3:15 pm deadline, if your student is not in the office waiting for you the office staff will not call your student out of class. Also, all early dismissal and late arrivals from medical appointments must have a note from the doctor in order to be excused.
When students are absent it is not necessary to call the school. Be sure to send a note to the homeroom teacher stating why the student was not in school. UCPS will notify you through Connect-Ed if your student was
absent.
