Updates for the Week
We hope that you’ve had a good weekend and an enjoyable Valentine’s Day. The children really enjoyed celebrating on Friday, and we thank you for all the cards and treats you sent in last week. Here are some updates for the week of February 15-19.
As a reminder, Monday, February 15 is a remote learning day for students. All students will learn from home, and attendance will be taken based on completing work and participation. It is a teacher workday. We’ve been talking at school about ways that love is important in communities and that heart health is important to us all, and our staff has prepared remote learning activities for your child to do at home. We sent home some materials for activities on Friday, and you can find directions and activities for “Love is in the Air” below and on ClassDojo, SeeSaw, and Google Classroom Monday morning. We hope that these activities will be fun and educational for your child. We will be back in session on Tuesday.
Also this week, we've planned a lockdown safety drill. We've had to make some adjustments due to health restrictions, but we've planned to do this practice on Wednesday.
We continue to accept applications for our pre-k program for the next school year. If your child will be 4 on or before August 30, 2021, they may be eligible for pre-k. We will be conducting screening in March, so please call the office to sign up. We will also be sharing information in the upcoming weeks about kindergarten registration.
We are still taking orders for our 2021 yearbook. The cost is $25, and we will only order yearbooks for those who order in advance. You can order a yearbook by returning the envelope and payment to school OR by ordering directly online from our website. If you need another form or have questions, please contact Mrs. St. John. https://wes.wilkescountyschools.org/apps/news/article/1348791
You can learn more about what’s happening in your child’s classroom on our weekly #WE Rise page here: https://www.smore.com/vzb8s We look forward to a great week. It’s been a year of adjustments, and we’re grateful for your patience, support, and encouragement from home.

Parents, please note that since we have moved to Plan A, students who are participating in Plan A will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes as usual and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. If your child is officially quarantined or excluded by the health department and/or the school nurse, your teacher will offer remote learning. If your child participates and does the work, the student will be marked PRESENT OFF SITE (1R). If not, the quarantine absences would be excused. If your child needs to be out, we will work with you to make sure your child doesn't get behind.
For students who continue with remote learning note that in order for us to count your child in attendance off site, we must on a daily basis verify that the student is engaged (completing and submitting assignments), on pace (participating in the virtual classroom), or receiving academic/emotional support (directly from the teacher). If this isn't happening, your child will be counted absent. Please make sure that your child is submitting work and that you are communicating with the teacher daily. Thanks in advance for your help!
