Virunga Gorillas

Matthew K

Why are people killing the gorillas? What is the problem, exactly? what is the history of the problem? What background info does a person need to know to understand the problem.

People are killing gorillas in the Virunga mountains. The forests of the gorillas have become a battleground. Different people are fighting around the area they live, and this puts the gorillas in danger. People are destroying the forests because they're trying to get supplies like wood and charcoal. When the gorillas try to eat they have nothing to eat because people are destroying the gorillas habitat and other animals habitat. People shouldn't destroy the gorillas habitat for natural resources they should look somewhere else where the gorillas aren't, or they should look to trade for wood and charcoal instead of destroying the gorillas habitat. People shouldn't use the forests as a battleground.

How do gorillas live, and how can we protect them?

What happens if the problem/conflict isn't resolved? Why should we care?

People are helping the gorillas by looking for them and finding out where they are staying. If we keep the gorillas safe, they will help out our ecosystem. Also, if the gorillas became extinct, it would affect other animals. They also keep our environment healthy. We should keep the gorillas safe because they will help us.

What is happening to their habitat in the Virunga mountains?

What is happening to the gorillas habitat in the Virunga Mountains? People are destroying the gorillas habitat. People are destroying the forests for natural resources like wood and charcoal. Also, it's harder to protect them because they move to higher, denser places and it's more challenging to protect them. They also move to higher, denser forests. Another reason, is the population is growing and they have to destroy more of the forest to make room. People should stop destroying the gorillas habitat and find somewhere else to build land for the other people.
