Winsor Faculty Update

Start of School Edition

Welcome Back

I hope everyone has had an outstanding summer, full of time to relax and enjoy the company of folks near and dear to your heart. Summer has always been a time of relaxation, but also reflection, contemplating possibilities for what this school year can bring for our students. I sincerely hope that each and every member of the Winsor team feels energized and hopeful for all that is to come this year. As always, there is much to do and the change process is ongoing, but, working together, there is nothing that we cannot accomplish.

Responsive Classroom Update

Another cohort of Winsor teachers is in the midst of the intensive RC training session. To support this work, we will be having another staff book study this fall. Our text, Interactive Modeling, is available for pick up in the main office. Our book study team is voluntary, but strongly encouraged. As we are in full implementation mode for the Responsive Classroom approach, our book study is an invaluable way to expand your knowledge base, bounce ideas off of one another, and develop a sense of team, as the RC approach is universal to our classrooms and our culture.

Book Club sessions can be used towards your 5.5 PD hours and will be held on:

Tuesday, September 17th (3:15-4:45)

Thursday, October 17th (3:15-4:45)

Tuesday, November 19th (3:15-4:45)

All sessions will be in the library.

School Improvement Update

To build upon all of our successes from last year, we will be taking on enhanced goals for the upcoming school year. Two of our goals will be continued from the 2018-2019 school year: Responsive Classroom Implementation & growth in student writing. Our third goal will focus on curriculum and instruction in the area of mathematics. This work is a natural continuance of the outstanding effort put forth by the elementary curriculum writing team that convened this past June.

The current iteration of our plan can be found:

We will invite families to again join in our work. Robust family participation builds momentum for each initiative, generates the capacity for knowledge and growth, and enhances morale. Family involvement in our collective endeavors benefits students and strengthens our performance outcomes.

Our opening meeting will be held on Thursday, September 26th at 3:30pm in the library. We will review our plan, discuss our goals, and set a meeting schedule for the remainder of the school year. Please join us!

I look forward to seeing everyone at our opening day PD on August 26th. There will be much to discuss then and I'm so excited for the wonderful things to come this year. Please know that Winsor is open from 8-2 on a daily basis until that time.
