Leadership Safari

Approximately 50 eighth-graders from Alma Middle School participated in the annual Leadership Safari conference held at the Alma PAC and led by community leaders and members of Leadership Crawford County. Eighth graders from schools across the county are nominated by teachers and counselors for demonstrating leadership qualities or potential. The students participated in several breakout sessions on goal setting, communications, problem-solving, leadership characteristics, and personality traits necessary to be leaders. The conference ended with a culminating activity where students were challenged to use the skills from the breakout sessions as they "learn to lead." We appreciate the community leaders who support and invest in our students.

National School Lunch Week 2021

Did you know the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day in cafeterias, classrooms and, when necessary, even at home? This week we celebrated #NSLW21 to highlight the importance of school lunch and the critical role school nutrition professionals play in helping children succeed in and out of the classroom. Pictured below are students at APS enjoying their special treats in celebration of NSLW!

Alma Performing Arts Center

There’s no doubt about it, tickets for ELF should already be on your Christmas shopping list - they are already going fast! This week, our spotlight turns to Haley Jackson. Haley plays Jovie in the musical version of this modern holiday classic.

In our story, Jovie works as a store elf at Macy’s, but don’t be mistaken, she doesn’t quite exude the Christmas spirit. She is kind of cynical, a bit rough around the edges, and now the target of our hero Buddy’s complete adoration. It’s a role that demands both singing and acting chops; read on to learn how Senior Haley Jackson is preparing to entertain you in this coveted role.

RISE Arkansas

R.I.S.E. (Reading Initiative for Student Excellence) Arkansas encourages a culture of reading by coordinating a statewide reading campaign with community partners, parents, and teachers to establish the importance of reading in homes, schools, and communities. This initiative is facilitated through the Arkansas Department of Education Division of Elementary and Secondary Education. The goals of R.I.S.E. are as follows:

Goal 1: Sharpen the focus and strengthen instruction.

Goal 2: Create community collaboration.

Goal 3: Build a culture of reading!

Because of R.I.S.E., the focus on reading progression for your child has shifted from determining your child’s reading level to determining what skills they need to read with fluency and comprehension.
