Compeer = companion + peer
Compeer Rochester- a community-based agency serving mental health clinics in the community- was founded by Bernice Skirboll in 1980. Adopt a Patient to Compeer is now a national program offered by hundreds of communities around the country. Also, internationally known, this supportive friendship/mentoring model is recognized by the American Psychological Association and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
You can COMPEER an individual or group facing a mental health challenge by joining one of the following programs at Compeer Rochester:

A Compeer spends a few hours a month with a youth, adult or a family to provide emotional and moral support while participating in cultural, recreational and educational activities together in the community.
