Keeping Kids Safe Online Month
October is designated as "Keeping Kids Safe Online" Month. Here in the Elementary/Middle School we have measures in place to ensure students have a safe internet environment as well as work to educate students on the "rights and wrongs" of online activities. At home, most often, the world wide web is at child's fingertips without filtering and firewalls in place to protect them. There are things parents can do to help keep kids safe while online at home:
• Keep technology in a common place within your house (ALL devices - including phones & tablets)
• Learn more about computers and the internet
• Spend time TOGETHER online with your kids
• Set reasonable time & usage limits on technology- and model it yourself.
• Discuss the dangers of the web with your child
• Keep your child out of chatrooms and remind them of "Stranger Danger"
• Remind them that no personal info should be shared & NEVER agree to meet face-to-face
• Do not allow your child to upload or download pictures without your consent
• Check with your internet provider (ISP) for any parental control, blocking or filtering services they may offer.
