Introduction to Pro Tips
Below are videos with bite-sized tips you can use to help make remote learning easier for you, the parent. Feel free to listen to these little clips while walking, driving, or even when winding down for the night. Each video provides tips that have been helpful for me.
While navigating virtual Wednesdays with my son, I have realized one thing: I need to empower him as much as possible. The more I empower him, with the right amount of teaching & scaffolding, the more he is able to take control of his own home learning. He knows how to:
- Log into his computer on his own
- Get to Canvas on his own
- Get to each Canvas page on his own
- Find extra resources in each Canvas page on his own and explore
It took some time to get to this point. But, I promise you this: the time you spend up front will be worth it in the long run. I am hoping these videos are helpful for you.

11/2 Communication About Our Remote Learning
Good Afternoon Doherty Families,
I realize that the news of our transition to remote only instruction is not ideal for anyone, so I want to begin by thanking you for your continued support. The purpose of this communication is to help support you and your child as we prepare to transition from hybrid learning to fully remote learning.
First, you should know that Doherty will be implementing an elementary model of remote instruction that looks and feels a bit different than what you will see at the other schools. This comes from our Doherty team’s desire to innovate and explore optimal ways to support the development of our children, especially under difficult circumstances like remote only learning. In pursuit of this quest, we eagerly proposed our model to district leadership; we are lucky to have a district leadership team that is willing to support our ideas, even when they look and feel a little bit different than the rest, so that we can provide the best possible experience for our kids. Although going fully remote is not what we want, we feel confident that our approach is developmentally appropriate, innovative, and focused on the needs of each individual child.
Please do one of the following to learn more about how we will successfully transition to remote learning:
