STATE TESTING – PLAN AHEAD
This year’s CAASPP testing begins April 22nd and ends May 3rd for students in grades 3-5. PLEASE BE SURE NOT TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS OR SPECIAL FAMILY ACTIVITIES DURING THIS TESTING WINDOW. It is important for your student to be at school every day, as we will begin reviewing concepts addressed on this test. As a parent, you can support your student by practicing/reviewing at home as well.
A Message from Mr. Hernandez
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As the final trimester of the year approaches, I want to make sure all students end the year strong. One of the contributing factors to ending strong is students adhering to our uniform policy. Please know that I have asked teachers to address students not in uniform. Please take a moment to review our uniform policy located on our school website. If your child has a medical condition that requires him/her to wear a hat, please do bring a doctor’s note to the school office so that we can have it on file. Please know that Fridays are days where students must still adhere to our overall District dress code policy. Thank you in advance for your support and for assuring your child is abiding by the uniform policy.
One School, One Book- My Father's Dragon Written By: Ruth Stiles Gannett
Books have arrived and will be coming home this week! Families are asked to read 1 chapter nightly with their students starting Monday, April 22nd. A special student presentation regarding the story will take place at Friday flag on April 19th. You don't want to miss out on this Kick off Assembly.
Nightly reading should happen Monday through Thursday for a little over 2 weeks, ending on Tuesday, May 7th. This is a short read and a great way to enjoy some time with your child. Students will be doing several activities throughout the weeks within their classrooms referring to their reading. A bookmark with the nightly reading schedule will also be sent home along with the book to help keep you on track.
Brief Book Summary:
When Elmer Elevator hears about the baby dragon being held captive on Wild Island, he knows just what to do. First, he packs his knapsack with important supplies, like chewing gum, lollipops, and lots of rubber-bands. Then he stows away on a ship headed for theisland. Along the way, Elmer meets many exotic animals. Each tries to sidetrack him, but Elmer has some tricks up his sleeve . . . or more precisely, in his knapsack. One way or another, he will rescue the dragon!

Earth Day Fun at Guin Foss!
Did you know that 91% of plastic waste isn’t recycled? And since most plastics don’t biodegrade in any meaningful sense, all that plastic waste could exist for hundreds or even thousands of years, ultimately polluting our oceans, harming animals and effecting human health.
Our planet is an amazing place to live, but it needs our help to thrive!
Please help our planet by joining us for an after school trash clean-up on Earth Day, Monday April 22nd, right here at our very own school!
Bring your grabbers if you have them! Parents must be present for children to stay after school. Please meet outside the MPR. Lemonade and a treat will be served for all who participate.
We hope you will join us!
Attention 2nd & 5th Grade Parents:
Thank you!
