Soaring into Success! January 19, 2024
"A Weekly Roundup of Learning and Fun!"
Dear Dighton Elementary School Community,
I hope this message finds you well. The week began with a two-hour delay on Tuesday, attributed to snow and icy roads. As temperatures drop, let's ensure our students are equipped with the appropriate winter attire. Ongoing health screenings this week underscore our commitment to ensuring the well-being of our students.
Looking ahead, I want to remind you about our upcoming Dighton PTO event—the Scholastic Book Fair is just around the corner! Please check the schedule to determine when your child will be visiting the book fair. 📖🎉 Additionally, mark your calendars for Family Night, promising an enjoyable time filled with books, hot chocolate, face painting, and fun activities.
Your thoughts and questions are important to us. If you wish to connect or share any concerns, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Dessert at ldessert@drregional.org or Mrs. Lima at klima@drregional.org. Your engagement and feedback are highly valued.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Dessert, Mrs. Lima, and the entire School Staff 🌟🎈

2024-2025 Dighton and Rehoboth Preschool Screenings 2/26 thru 3/1
Notification of Annual Health Screenings
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The Dighton – Rehoboth School Health Services program supports student academic success by promoting health in the school setting. One way that we provide care for your child is by performing the health screenings as mandated by the State of Massachusetts. Screenings are not a diagnostic tool, but rather a means of identifying potential problems that can affect a child’s performance in school. The following health screenings will be completed throughout the school year:
Vision –Grades K-4
Hearing – Grades K-3
Growth and Development - (height and weight) – Grades 1 and 4
If your child is tested, and the results are not in the “normal” range for the vision and hearing screen, you will be notified by letter. If you receive a letter, it is recommended that you take your child to a doctor or healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation.
If you want your child to participate in the screenings for his/her grade, no further action is required.
If you do not want your child to participate in any or all of the screenings, please send a letter to the school nurse. This request must be written each year and be specific to which screening(s) you would like your child to opt out of participating.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school nurse, Mrs. Alberto,
at (508) 669 4247 ext 1103

Please see the Superintendent's request for volunteers for the District's DRiving Toward 2030 Initiative. If you recall, the District started the Strategic Planning process last year by developing the Portrait of a Graduate (POG). I am very pleased to share that the next phase of our Strategic Planning initiative is on schedule for a proposal to be made to School Committee in late May/early June. Both our Strategic Planning Committee and our DLT have christened this process “DRiving toward 2030.”
I want to salute all who have been collaborative in this process since the Portrait of a Graduate kicked off in the fall of 2022. Now, I am asking everyone else to consider participating.
We are now at the stage of assembling subcommittees to build out the five foundational elements of the “DRiving Toward 2030” plan.
Participating is optional; and in my opinion, it’s not a heavy lift. We are probably looking at a maximum of three evening meetings over a 4-month period.
If you are willing to serve on a subcommittee, please take 2-3 minutes prior to January 8 at Noon to complete this Google Form. We will be creating subcommittees for each of the 5 focus areas (see below) and would like to know your top 3 subcommittee preferences.
Please be sure to mark your calendar for Wednesday, January 24 at 6pm for our next in-person DRiving Toward 2030 meeting.
DRiving Toward 2030 Subcommittees
Funding and Facilities (Resources) - Sustainable fiscal health, facilities, and resources
Safe & Healthy Learning Environment - Cultures that welcome learning and school environments where each scholar thrives
Curriculum, Instruction, & Learning Outcomes - High-quality curriculum and instruction that results in future-ready learning outcomes
Community Engagement - Enhanced school and community connections and family engagement
Expanded Learning Opportunities - Learning opportunities both in school and community
