Field Day
Art and Literature Fling Wednesday, May 29, 6:00-8:00 PM
Come see our students' work related to Greece, this year's country of study! Every BSES student will have work on display at our exhibit in the LGI. In addition,we will have an ice cream truck on hand to purchase treats to enjoy!
History of the Art and Literature Fling
Fifteen years ago we hosted an Artist in Residence from China--Hua Hua Zhang--who engaged our students in a week of learning related to the Chinese art of puppetry. This sparked the idea to take our annual Art show and place a different spin on it. Ms. Esher, our Art teacher, and Ms Cleveland, our former librarian, joined efforts to transform our annual Art show to have students include both Art work and a writing project to display in an exhibition related to a specific country and culture. We decided to choose countries in a repetitive 5-year cycle so that students could experience a different part of the world in each of their 5 years at Bethel Springs. Our cycle has included China, Mexico, India, Africa (selected countries), and Greece. In addition to the specific learning that takes place in the Art room and the Library, we try to find other ways throughout the year to infuse learning related to the designated country--special assemblies, decorations in the lobby, exposure through literature and music, playing of children's games from the given country, fact finding/sharing regarding history, food, and other aspects of the chosen culture. We believe that this practice provides yet another layer of learning to help our students understand, appreciate, and better navigate the diverse world in which they live.Color Dash Corner
