A Reading From The Gospel for Sunday, June 21, 2020
June 21, 2020 ~ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops.
Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. And even the hairs of your head are all counted.
The Gospel of the Lord.

École OLPH Option selections will be available starting Monday, June 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. All Option Selections are required to be completed by Friday, June 26, 2020. After this date, your child will be placed into an option class where there is availability due to classes already being full.
Instructions on How to Select your Option Selections
- Sign in to PowerSchool
- Click on your child’s name
- Click – Course Request Management
- Complete each Track. To know if a Track has been completed you will have a green check mark beside the box. A red exclamation mark means you are required to complete this Track.
- Submit (Will only allow you to submit if you have all green check marks)
- You must complete these steps for each student that attends École OLPH.
We are pleased to offer exciting options that will enhance our students’ education at École OLPH Catholic School through sports-related, technology, foods, construction, or creative courses.
All of the descriptions for the option courses for grades five, six, seven and eight students at École OLPH Catholic School during the 2020-2021 school year are attached below, as well as, located on the school website at olph.eics.ab.ca under the Programs tab.
It is important to register as these courses fill up quickly. The PowerSchool program has almost always been able to provide students with their top two choices for options. However, when completing course requests you will also be asked to pick two alternate options. This selection may be scheduled if timetabling conflicts prevent your top two preferences from being met.
Please ensure that you have a green checkmark beside each track in Powerschool before continuing.
The cost of each option is listed in the document below. These fees will become available for payment through PowerSchool at the beginning of the 2020/2021 school year.

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day!
Dear Parents,
What is National Indigenous Peoples Day?
Sunday, June 21, 2020, is National Indigenous Peoples Day.
This is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The Canadian Constitution recognizes these three groups as Aboriginal peoples, also known as Indigenous peoples.
Although these groups share many similarities, they each have their own distinct heritage, language, cultural practices and spiritual beliefs.
For generations, many Indigenous peoples and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on or near this day due to the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.

Summer Anti Racism Learning
As you read this, online schooling for this year is done and you deserve a big pat on the back for getting this far. Kudos to all of you for the work you put in no matter what your situation looked like: we thank you for continuing teaching our students and putting in as much effort as possible. We know it was tough and I hope you have some ideas around rest and relaxation during this summer.
Over the last few weeks, there have been important things happening in our world with the #blacklivesmatter & #indigeniouslivesmatter movements, which is stirring up a lot of feelings and thoughts for many people. Our children are watching us during this time and seeing how we are answering to this movement. Are we learning from our past history? Are we acknowledging our own biases, privileges and how we may act in the face of racist thoughts, bias and actions? And most importantly, how are we having the conversation with our children about this time? What are their thoughts? What is their understanding?
As we spent time relaxing and unwinding from the tensions of COVID, there are some small and simple ways to promote diversity and continue the learning for your children in regards to the BLM. Your child's learning starts at home and here are some ideas you can enjoy your summer while your child can be exposed to the diverse world:
1) Consider going or ordering out from a different restaurant from a different country. There are some delicious ethnic and cultural restaurants in Sherwood Park and Edmonton! What an inexpensive way to travel!
2) Read some books with diverse content. In regards to learning Black/Indigenious culture for middle school students, please consider:
a) The Second Life of Samuel Type (Book) by Esi Edugyan
b) Brown Girl Dreaming (book) by Jacqueline Woodson
c) The Field Guide to the North American Teenager (Book) by Ben Phillipe
d) The Marrow Thieves (book) by Cherie Dimaline
3)If you are open to visit something in person, both the Royal Alberta Museum and the Strathcona County Museum have displayed with diverse culture learning opportunities, highlighting our Indigenious culture and history.

Please see attached image. As parents, you are your child's FIRST and MOST IMPORTANT educator. Please continue the conversation around racism, diversity and inclusion.
God bless each and everyone of you during your summer vacation.
Take care,

EICS Transportation Fees Flexible Payment Plan Options ~ Spring 2020
We realize that it may seem confusing as to why we are sending out invoices about next September when so many things in our province are not finalized during this pandemic.
In order to start planning routes and schedules moving forward - EICS Transportation needs to have concrete numbers of students and addresses to start planning the routes and pick up/drop off stops for our EICS bus riders.
With respect to specific concerns about transportation fees and the payment plan, EICS has provided two options:
- Option 1: June 15 to December 15 or
- Option 2: September 15 to March 15
As well, if you have school fees that have been credited for programming and other options for this school year that you would like applied to EICS transportation fees, you can request this by contacting the school directly. The school will confirm that all resources have been returned prior to granting the request.
Below, we have included some easy steps that parents can take to access transportation fees and specifically the payment plan. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact EICS transportation at T ransportation@eics.ab.ca or by calling (780) 449-6480.
We want to thank you for continued patience and understanding as we move through this together.
God Bless
