How To Be A Global Citizen
A Step-By-Step Guide
What Is A Global Citizen?
In this day and age, people are no longer citizens of one country or one city only. People have a greater responsibility to the world at large. Our everyday actions can and do affect people on the other side of the globe. A true global citizen will do everything in their power to ensure this effect is positive.
Step 1: Be Local
Affecting your local community is the first step to global citizenry. Instead of shopping at corporate supermarkets, discover and shop at locally-owned stores in your city to support them. Find local charities and volunteer projects and lend a hand. Go to your local farmer's market and support your community. There is so much you can do at your own local community!
Step 2: Be Global
Global!
The people in 1984 know nothing of the other countries besides that they're in a war with them. Many Americans know nothing about the Middle East besides terrorist groups. A true global citizen learns about and respects other cultures, and contributes to worldwide projects to improve these cultures and the places they inhabit.
Step 3: Educate Yourself
Learn to vote with your dollar by not supporting companies who are against causes you s to support. Learn ways to improve the world around you, like switching to solar energy. Learn to respect other cultures and the people in them. Education is one of the greatest virtues of a global citizen and there can never be enough of it.
