The Hungate Echo
Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Autumn Term 2 - Issue 2
A word from Mr Broom.
I visited Year 1 and 2 on Thursday afternoon to find them sharing a range of activities around their project of 'the power of the poppy'. The children's engagement was amazing to see as they completed a carousel of activities including, class poppy making, poppy paint printing and many more. Similarly in Year 3 and 4, the children were working together to make a shaduf. This was the earliest form of lever system used by the Egyptians. To see the children working out the challenge using string, wood and other resources was brilliant.
Congratulations are also in order to our Year 3/4 hockey team, who came second in the inter-schools hockey championships at Sherburn High School. They had a wonderful time and were unlucky not to be the overall champions.
Meanwhile, our teachers and support staff have been working with Miss Mackay on Kagan learning. This is a methodology of teaching that allows maximum participation in lessons. The teachers have already started to practice and adopt the approaches shared and we'll be developing this throughout the term, aiming to raise standards all the while.
Star Children in School this Week
Attendance
Congratulations to our Year 1 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 98.2%.
As you can see below, out attendance in some classes is way above the national average which is fantastic. Thank you for your support on this.
The overall attendance this week fell to 95.7% and is the first time we've been below the national average this year. Let's hope to bounce back next week!
