Fulton Focus
For the Parents and Patrons of the Fulton School District
September 14, 2018
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
As you know, this week started with a day off for students and professional development activities for faculty and staff. Our focus for professional development was the annual ‘active shooter’ training/review. The session was sponsored by the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department and delivered by area law enforcement professionals. This training is always beneficial, but very stressful for staff. In addition, the Callaway County Ambulance Service conducted a session titled ‘Stop the Bleed’ which was a first aid primer for massive injuries. The Ambulance Service has a goal to put first aid kits in every FPS classroom. We sincerely appreciate our First Responders who support our District and Community.
At this week’s Board of Education meeting, two job descriptions were approved for District Social Work professionals. Once hired, the Social Work professionals will enhance the District’s mental health initiatives as promised in Proposition K.
Posted on the FPS website in the For Parent's section is the Missouri State High School Activities Association’s annual brain injury report. This is a legislative mandate report to track injuries with the intent of reducing injuries in co-curricular activities.
Finally, please note that the end of the first grading period, October 16th is rapidly approaching. Please ask your student(s) about their grade status and take an active role to ensure homework and class activities are complete.
Thanks for sending great students to work with. We appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
Superintendent

How do you help kids understand a day like 9-11 when they didn't live it? You thank first responders by making cards and writing letters. You perform a Readers Theater, analyze music about 9-11, and enjoy patriotic pops while watching a quick video about 9-11. Many activities happened on Tuesday throughout the buildings of Fulton Public Schools because we will always remember.
Thanks to those who serve us in our community and our country.
