News and updates for families of Inspire students
September 11, 2020
Dear Inspire Families:
Wednesday morning, as the Bear Fire raged, the Inspire community launched into action, beginning first with calls to families in Oroville to see where they were and what students needed. Teachers began calling students that afternoon to make sure they were safe, and to see what support could be provided for their success in these last few days of the class session.
Right now, I'm so grateful for teachers for reaching out to students, for the compassion and care they show each day. Along with a personalized approach to supporting students, teachers are providing the crucial routines, rituals, and consistency needed to make students feel safe and comfortable, even in an online learning space. Today in Malina Olson's Anatomy class, she began with a welcome: "Good morning! I'm so excited to see you today," followed by a "How are you doing?" Students could give a thumbs up or thumbs down for a quick visual check in to set the stage for a team project.
As we adjust and adapt to yet another unthinkable change in our world, we look to old routines and invent new ones to keep us grounded in what's important--care for each other.
With gratitude for your partnership,
Becky Brown

If your student has been affected by wildfires or by power outages, we want you to know that we are here for you. While we are saddened that we can't provide a safe space on campus, we can work with your family on a case-by-case basis to see how we might support your student.
Please call the office and let us know if your child will need to be absent, either due to an evacuation or to loss of power. We will reach out to teachers to develop a plan to support your student successfully to the end of this first class session and into the next.
