Meet Kelly Mechelke -- Red Wing High School Assistant Principal
Dr. Kelly Mechelke joined the Red Wing High School leadership team on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021. She works most closely with students in grades 7-8.
Assistant Principal Mechelke earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Northcentral University. In addition to earning a master’s degree from Viterbo and a bachelor’s degree from University Wisconsin-Stout, she completed special education licensure through the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Her experience includes being a teacher, a K-12 curriculum coordinator, assistant principal and a principal.
What has been your first impression of Red Wing High School?
It is a busy place with lots of positive things happening every day. The students have been very friendly to me my first few days; their manners are impressive.
I have really enjoyed the school pride of being a "Winger" -- something to all that work here and attend here.
The staff have been so professional and helpful as I get to know the flow of the building and settle into my assistant principal role.
What are you most excited about at Red Wing High School?
I'm most excited to get to know the students. In addition, being a former teacher I want to support teachers in all they do.
What inspired you to be an educator?
I chose to be an educator because I had great teachers who made me believe in myself and in humanity.
I think that people who possess a can-do attitude inspire me. I am encouraged by those that are kind and compassionate even in tough situations. I have been fortunate to have so many people cross my path in life that have inspired me in different ways, pushing me to continue growing into the best version of me.
What is one of the special skills or interests you bring?
I am an Enneagram enthusiast and enjoy teaching Enneagram to others in groups or individually.
I have led Enneagram training in two school districts.
Enneagram helps people understand how head, heart and body shape our unique personalities and training helps people understand one another and celebrate their uniqueness.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and my dog. I enjoy motorcycling, hiking, running, pilates, and yoga.
