A Letter From The Administration
This year is sure to be unlike any other. With changing safety precautions and regulations, things at Southeast will surely change. Please know that no matter the change, we will keep supporting students as our focus. We look forward to partnering with you to rise to the challenges that this year is sure to bring.
For those new to Southeast, we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves. Dr. Terri Deayon is the proud principal of Southeast. The 2020-2021 school year marks her 20th year in education. She was born and raised in St. Joseph, MO. Prior to becoming a principal, the majority of her teaching experience was as a 6th grade teacher. She served as the principal at Edison Elementary School, in St. Joseph, for five years prior to transitioning to the Park Hill School District. This upcoming year will be her third year as the principal at Southeast.
This will be Sarah Sieminski's second year as the Southeast assistant principal. She has been part of the Park Hill School District since she began her education back in kindergarten! Sarah was born and raised in the Park Hill School District and attended Prairie Point, Plaza, Congress, and Park Hill. Prior to becoming the assistant principal at Line Creek in 2018, Sarah taught 4th grade, 3rd grade, and kindergarten.
Southeast Elementary School is a great place to learn. Our goal is to challenge your children intellectually, grow them socially, and guide them toward independent thinking and problem solving. We will encourage students to demonstrate their best effort, attitude, and behavior every moment of every day, as they make positive contributions to Southeast Elementary. Every parent is an important member of the Southeast community and can do their part in helping to create a successful school experience. Please join us in partnering together to support your child’s educational educational journey.
Those who were at Southeast last year know that effective this school year, the entire Park Hill School District will implement the initiative of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This researched-based approach is a multi-tiered system that helps schools meet the needs of all learners. During fourth quarter last year, we worked with staff and families to determine our building-wide PBIS expectations. The graphic below indicates those expectations: Be a Superstar: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Proactive, Be a Leader. Our staff will work to teach, model, reteach, and reinforce these expectations using 'leadership points' and positive feedback.
We are looking forward to meeting our new Southeast students and families. Education is a team effort between parents/guardians and the school. We are fortunate to work alongside such fantastic staff members, students, and families! Let’s make 2020-2021 a school year to remember!
Your partners in education,
Dr. Terri Deayon & Sarah Sieminski

Did You Know?
If your family has completed the annual residency verification process, you should have received class placement information with this publication.
All Park Hill families are required to complete the online residency verification process before student enrollment is finalized and a class placement is made. We are unable to officially send classroom placement information to households who have not verified residency.
If you did not receive class placement information in this email, please call the school office at 816-359-4360 to verify residency within the Park Hill School District. All Park Hill families must provide a copy of your lease or mortgage statement and one utility bill. Students will not be permitted to begin the 2020-2021 school year without having this verification of residency.

Bring Each Day
Backpacks: This summer we discouraged the use of backpacks. We have learned more since then to allow students to bring their backpacks each day. We are hoping this will make it easier for students to bring essential supplies to and from school.
Water Bottle: We are asking students and staff members to please come to school and work with a water bottle, if possible. Students and staff members can fill from one of our water fill stations instead of using the water fountain.
Badge & Lanyard: Like last year, students will be issued a student ID badge. The ID badge supports our safe and caring environment by providing proper identification and improved processes for lunch, media checkout, and more. Your child should wear his/her ID badge to and from school each day on a school provided lanyard. No other lanyards may be used and no alterations may be made to the provided lanyard. Please ensure your child wears his/her badge every day.
Charged Device: This year, K-1st students will be provided a district iPad. Students in 2nd-5th grades will be provided a district laptop. It is the responsibility of the student to charge their device at home and bring it back to school each day.
Sanitizer (OPTIONAL): Throughout the day, we will encourage hand washing, and we will also supply hand sanitizer in every classroom. Students and staff members must wash hands or use hand sanitizer before and after meals and recess.Students may bring a personal bottle of hand sanitizer if they prefer.
Beginning of the Year Events
In response to recommendations from the Kansas City Health Department and the Platte County Health Department, based on high levels of COVID-19 in our area, Park Hill has delayed events such as the start of school and Kindergarten Kick-Off. We have also opted to change high-traffic events such as Back to School Night and Parent Orientation to virtual experiences. See below for details about each of these events at Southeast.
Park Hill Online Device and Supply Pick-Up: September 2nd
Kindergarten Kickoff: September 3rd
Virtual Back to School Night & Parent Orientation: September 3rd
Car Riders
Students who will be car riders every day will be considered “every day car riders.” All parents will be given a placard on the first day of school. On the first day of school, use old placards (or a sign with your child's name) and have your ID ready.
The placard MUST be displayed in the front window of the vehicle so staff can identify the parent or guardian. During dismissal, these students will be dismissed through the cafeteria doors on the east side of the building. Staff members will supervise the car riders until a parent arrives.
Please form 3 lines of cars so we can avoid blocking traffic with a long line of cars. We anticipate additional car rider traffic this year.
Transportation Changes
If your student is going to have different transportation, a note or phone call from the parent must accompany the request. Please contact the office prior to 2:30p to request a change in transportation. Bus changes will only be issued for changes in daycare or for the safety of the student. If an alternative person is checking out your student, the person must have their ID scanned.
If you are picking your child up prior to the end of the school day, please arrive in the office prior to 3:30p. Parents who arrive after 3:40p, will need to wait until dismissal begins for their child to be called out of class.
Bus Transportation
Families will receive a communication from Nicole Kirby, Park Hill’s Director of Communication Services, detailing how to access your child’s bus transportation information. Please check your contact information in the parent portal (Infinite Campus), to ensure your contact information is up to date. If you have questions or concerns regarding bus issues, please contact First Student at 816-359-4560.
2020 Update:
Please consider taking your child to school instead of sending them on the bus. We will not be able to provide physical distancing on the buses, but we will take as many precautions as possible. See the Park Hill School District's Reopening Plan for more details.

Food Services: Breakfast & Lunch
Breakfast and lunch are served daily. Breakfast starts at 8:50a. Please refer to the monthly menu for specific meal selections. September menus will be available on the Park Hill School District Nutrition Services Website.
Park Hill offers automated prepayments to a child’s meal account via telephone or internet. Money can be applied to a child’s food service account so children will not need to carry cash to school. If you do not have your child’s meal pay number, please contact the office. Adults using this system may also view a child’s purchases, account activity and set up e-mail notifications for low account balances. Please note: A $2 service fee is charged per transaction regardless of the amount being added to the account. However, money can be applied to multiple student accounts for a single transaction fee. If that is not your preference, payment envelopes are available for students to pick-up in the cafeteria. Parents who would like to set up a School Café Account can go to www.schoolcafe.com. You must have your student’s school, ID number, and birth date to establish a School Café account.
An application of free/reduced meal pricing is available in the school office or on this Free & Reduced Application Page. We encourage everyone who qualifies to complete an application.
Student Breakfast $1.50
Student Lunch $2.40
Milk $.60
Juice $.40
Adult Breakfast $2.00
Adult Lunch without milk $3.50

Southeast Health Room
Please keep Nurse Cassie updated throughout the school year of any newly occurring/changes in health conditions, medications, or injuries that might result in restrictions, such as not being able to participate in P.E. This year, it is especially important to stay in contact with Nurse Cassie regarding all symptoms of COVID-19.

No Birthday Treats
Due to COVID-19 health and safety precautions, we cannot distribute any outside food or beverages to our students. This means we will not have birthday treats from outside the school.
If families or teachers would like to purchase birthday treats for their students, please work through our Nutrition Services department. Be advised that this department will need advanced notice (a minimum of 2 weeks) to accomodate orders.
Do you know a Park Hill Star?
The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy.
The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:
Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students. That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.
Southeast Communication
You will find several ways to stay up to date on school activities on the Southeast website , Facebook, and newsletters from your child’s teacher. You will also occasionally get an automated email or voicemail message sent to you, by the school, with important information and reminders. We know two-way communication is best, so please feel free to call or email with any questions you may have regarding your child’s education.
