Thank you for your participation during our most recent events. We hope you have enjoyed yourselves. Our PTA continues to astound us with their donation of time. These events are only possible because of the dedicated members setting aside time to support their school. All volunteers are reminded that semester 1 volunteer hours are due by December 23, 2022.
FAST testing continues this week and student results will be shared very soon.
Stay safe and we hope you enjoy the holidays.
Clinic News
It is that time of year – the Flu has appeared
Let’s prevent by:
· Getting the Flu vaccine
· Getting plenty of sleep each night
· Eating a well-balanced diet with plenty of water
· Exercising on a daily basis (even a short walk will do)
· Washing hands frequently with soap and water (after playing outside, after using the restroom, after sneezing or coughing into, before and after eating).
· Keeping hands away from your face
If your student is ill and you suspect the flu, or any influenza- like-illness please keep them home and notify their provider for guidance. They need rest, fluids and treatment of symptoms. The flu is one of those viruses that is very individual in symptoms and intensity so each person reacts and heals differently.
· Students can NOT be in school until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Fever is defined in Pinellas County Schools this year as oral temp greater than 100 F or axillary/tympanic temp greater than 99 F.
· Students can return to school 5 days after symptoms began or when active signs of illness have resolved.
· The flu usually presents itself suddenly, so your student may be perfectly fine before school and develop symptoms after arriving
· If you have had a change in contact numbers since the beginning of the school year, please take a moment to stop in and provide the most current number or if you have not turned in a clinic card please do so and please remember to update focus with the new information.
Any Questions or concerns we are here to help. By working together we can provide a healthy school for everyone!
Thank you for your support,
Nurse Diana

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
BCE’s East Lake Sunrise Student of the Month for December
It is with great pleasure that Mrs. Miller nominates Olivia Breadon as BCE’s East Lake Sunrise Student of the Month for December. Simply put, Olivia is amazing! In the classroom, she always strives to do her best and is an extremely motivated learner. Olivia can be depended on to lend a helping hand to others when needed and is always courteous, friendly, and willing to share. She gets along fabulously with all her classmates and displays the commitment and characteristics of a “kid with character” daily. Outside the classroom, Olivia is very active in both the BCE and local community. She currently participates in the BCE Run Club, has been in BCE Chorus, and PMAC. Olivia organizes and collects food donations for Metropolitan Ministries and is a member of the North Pinellas Platinum Swim Team. Olivia participates in the Gifted Program, achieved Principal’s List and has recently begun the Accelerated 6th grade math program online. Congratulations to you Olivia! You are truly a Bobcat who ROARS!

I need your votes!!!!
Please visit the Brooker Creek Facebook Page and click on the KIDS TAG ART TEACHER CONTEST to cast your vote for my teacher design. Teacher designs with the most “likes” will win additional funding for their classroom and we need it for our big tile mosaic project that is currently underway.
My design is #8 (The “LOVE” design) and can be seen below. Voting is open for a couple more weeks and all you have to do is “Like” #8 to cast your vote. If you are so inclined to share the post to YOUR Facebook wall to request your friends and family to also cast their vote, I’m sure BCE can secure 1st place. Let me know if you have any questions and thank you to everyone who has already voted.
Enjoy these special times with your family and Happy New Year

Library News:
The media center is a place where kids learn to enjoy reading. When a student chooses the books that interest them, they are more interested in reading. Remind your child to choose a just right book. Please take time to share their books with them. By sitting together looking at the pictures, reading the captions and talking about the story, you are building memories and modeling good reading habits that will last your child a lifetime. If you would like to view our inventory of books, please go to https://destiny.pcsb.org/ and select Brooker Creek Elementary. This will give you a direct link to all the books that we have in our collection available for checkout.
Ebooks! Ebooks! Ebooks!
Did you know you students and staff can read over 1,000 e-books online for free from our very own library?
· Students can do this directly from our Destiny Catalog https://destiny.pcsb.org/
· Click on Catalog at the top of the page to search books and ebooks in our media center.

Technology News:
Brooker Creek is participating in the Hour of CODE the week of December 5th – December 13th. Every 21st-century student should have the opportunity to take part in creating technology that’s changing our world. The basics help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills and prepare students for any future career. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. By exposing both girls and boys to fundamental computing concepts on a level playing field, starting with the earliest learners, we can inspire today’s generation of students to build technology.

P.E. News
What a great start to the school year it has been in PE! We have introduced new activities, played many group games, and have practiced various team sports. We were blown away by the support you gave your children during the Turkey Trot. We'd like to thank you for being so involved in your child's education. We know not everyone can make school events, but we see your support every day when your child comes to class, ready to learn:-) We are ending the school year with a fun running activity called Run to the North Pole. Students will spend the first part of PE class running laps and listening to Holiday Music. Each grade level will have a lap number they will try to achieve during that week to make it in the Reindeer Club. All students will be rewarded whether they can reach that number or not...It's just a fun way to get them active. We hope everyone has a great time off during the Holidays and we wish you all a Happy New Year!
