Use of Secret Police & State Terrorism

In 1927, Mussolini created his secret police organization, OVRA, the leader of which was Arturo Bocchini. OVRA stood for Organizzazione per la Vigilanza e la Repressione dell'Antifascismo, which means "Organization for Vigilance and Repression of Anti-fascism. OVRA arrested 4,000 people and sentenced only 10 to death.

CENSORSHIP & CONTROL OF THE MEDIA

Mussolini used media to push his ideas on fascism. All radio, press, and films were monitored to ensure fascist ideas would reach Italians in a positive way - that it was the remedy for their country.

Avanti! was the socialist newspaper Mussolini wrote. Avanti means forward in English. The newspaper was opposed to militarism, imperialism, and nationalism and spread the views to the Italian people.

FASCISM: SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT UNDER RULE OF A DICTATOR

SINGLE PARTY DICTATORSHIP

Mussolini passed the Acerbo Law that would allow a party to get 2/3 of the parliament seats if they got a 1/4 vote. The Fascist Party gained these seats, and after a murder incident, some of the anti-fascists in parliament left. This gave a much better hand to the fascists.
