Learning from One Another
We are surrounded by fabulous teachers! I read blogs, look at pins on Pinterest, and see tweets from educators all over the country. I have been impressed and discouraged when I've compared my teaching and classroom to these peeks I've had into others. This year, I've had the opportunity to visit classrooms in our very own building. And guess what? We have awesome things happening and inviting classrooms right in our very own building! If you'd like to opportunity to visit another classroom in our building or even district to observe a particular instructional strategy or classroom management style, let me know. I'd be happy to cover your class.
Family Literacy Night
On January 26, Franklin will be hosting its first Family Literacy Night in the High School Commons. Our theme is Roll out the Red Carpet for Readers! I will plan the activities, but I would love some volunteers to man a station. Any volunteers?
The Reading Strategies Book
At the beginning of this year, I obtained a copy of The Reading Strategies Book by Jennifer Serravallo. This book outlines 300 strategies for implementing goal-directed, differentiated instruction for your literacy block. Feel free to check it out from our office.
Writing Unit
I have one taker on co-planning and teaching a writing unit. Anyone else interested?
Booster Shots
We will begin FAST testing January 27. The testing window closes February 5. In preparation for the testing, I will be pulling second and third graders individually, and in some cases, in pairs. During our brief sessions, we will be intensively practicing fluent reading strategies.
