Field Flash
November 19, 2021
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
First and foremost, I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and a very restful week ahead. We hope you are able to also take some time away from your daily work to be with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming your children back to Field on Monday, November 29th.
As a reminder to the families signed up, the vaccination clinic for students aged 5-11 will take place tomorrow, Saturday, November 20th. We know many families have also taken their children to other locations for their vaccinations. Our District Health Department would like to share this information with you, which details information about the COVID vaccination for children and questions some parents may have after your child is vaccinated.
I also wanted to share a bit of information about students and music. While we typically host a holiday singing performance in December, we are not able to gather in large groups at this time, so our music team here at Field is preparing a family-style at-home sing along. I'll share more details in an upcoming Field Flash.
As a continued reminder, everyone should continue to monitor their health and stay at home if they develop any symptoms. In addition, all unvaccinated family members must remain home if a household member exhibits symptoms and/or is awaiting test results. Please know that COVID-19 symptoms vary widely, especially it seems in children. Our primary focus is to keep students safe and in-person, learning together.
Thank you for your partnership!
A few additional important reminders:
- Colder Weather: Now that the weather feels more like fall, please make sure that your child is dressing to be outdoors for the lunch/recess hour. We instruct students who bring coats or sweatshirts to wear them when we are outside. Please be sure your child is dressed for outdoor recess.
- CARES tickets: as part of our building-wise positive behavior system, students can earn CARES tickets. Each Friday, each classroom selects a winning ticket and that student comes down to the office for a small prize. As a building, we were working towards a building-wide ticket goal - students have selected the November incentive, which is "teacher switch day". If we reach our building-wide goal, our teachers will switch classes for 30 minutes on Friday, December 3rd. We are so proud of our students and their excellent respectful and responsible behavior!
I hope that you have a nice weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney Goodman
Principal
Weekly Testing and Test-to-Stay
District 64 will be moving to a new testing agency for its weekly testing and test-to-stay programs. Exam Corp will be providing the testing starting Monday, November 29th. Earlier this week, parents had the opportunity to sign their student up for both of these options, and additional opportunities will be provided in the future.
As a note, Exam Corp will continue with saliva tests for students. However, nasal swabs are an option should parent prefer and/or should a student not be able to produce enough saliva for a testable sample. If you have concerns about your child being offered a nasal swab in the instance that they cannot produce enough saliva, please do not hesitate to reach out to our main office. Thank you!
Field Family Sing-Along
Field School students are learning a seasonal song to share with their families at home over Winter Break. Once students have finished learning the song in class, we encourage students to perform for all available family members to spread some seasonal cheer. Students may even wish to teach the song they learned to their grown-ups after performing it for them!
Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade students will have access to the accompaniment recording in Seesaw. Mrs. Kapustka and Ms. Kwasny will show students exactly how to access the recording during class time. Additionally, students will be able to access the lyrics in Seesaw. The accompaniment recording will become available in Seesaw starting on the evening of Wednesday, December 15, 2021. The recording will be taken down from Seesaw on January 5, 2022 in accordance with the copyright permissions we were granted.
3rd Grade, 4th Grade, and 5th Grade students will have access to the accompaniment recording on Schoology. Mrs. Kapustka and Ms. Kwasny will show students exactly how to access the recording during class time. Additionally, students will be able to access the lyrics in Schoology. The accompaniment recording will become available in Schoology starting on the evening of Wednesday, December 15, 2021. The recording will be taken down from Schoology on January 5, 2022 in accordance with the copyright permissions we were granted.

YEARBOOK: COVER CONTEST
Attention all FIELD students, we will again be conducting a yearbook cover contest. The book theme this year will be “Year of Champions”
For each yearbook cover submission, please ensure
1. The design is placed on a 8.5 x 11 sheet
2. Free hand original art is preferred (vs. digital art)
3. The cover must have “Field School 2021-2022” on it
4. Students can hand their single submission into their teacher in the classroom, at the front office or electronically to fieldschoolyearbook@gmail.com
5. DEADLINE = Friday Jan 15th
We ask the students be inspired to creatively express what a champion means to them, and/or specify a local, regional, national or international figure that emulates the righteous behavior of a CHAMPION! We cannot wait to see all these artful submissions come through. As with years past, we will have (1) winner for the front cover, (1) winner for the back cover, and (1) winner from each grade level. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
YEARBOOK: PICTURE OF THE MONTH - November thru December
As we continue to hybrid between last year’s virtual monthly picture submissions and in-person school event picture submissions, we would like to encourage Field families to submit pictures throughout this next month (Nov thru Dec) where Field students’ are enjoying holiday "traditions” and/or holiday baking! This is such a fun, special time for everyone, and we can’t wait to see the Field students smiling faces. Have a wonderful holiday season.
Remember to send picture submissions to: fieldschoolyearbook@gmail.com
With subject header “HOLIDAY TRADITIONS” and don’t forget to include grade levels
Dates to Remember
Saturday, November 20th: Vaccination Clinic for students
November 22nd-26th: Thanksgiving Week - no school
Monday, November 29th: School resumes
Week of December 6th: MAP testing for students in grades 2-5
Parents of 2nd Graders - Chromebooks
- Keep the chromebook in the protective case
- Create a charging routine at home each night
- Keep the charger in a safe spot
- Create a morning checklist (backpack, chromebook, lunch, etc) to help remember the chromebook each day.
Lunch & Recess - Updates
As this year evolves, so have our lunch & recess plans. Our primary goal during the lunch/recess hour is to keep students safe in terms of minimizing the potential for close contact while also ensuring students have the opportunity to play and enjoy their friends.
With those goals in mind, we will continue to eat lunch outside as much as possible. For the recess portion, we'll also continue to be outside as much as possible. We do use the Childcare Weather Watch system to determine when it's safe to be outside for the recess portion (once we hit the winter months).
We are adjusting our plans for indoor lunch. The primary reason we are adjusting our indoor lunch plans is to shift to having students 6 feet apart while they eat (as compared to the 3 feet we do currently indoors). With students 6 feet apart while unmasked, we will have fewer close contact situations during the school day. In order to be 6 feet apart during lunch, we will return to our picnic style lunches when indoors. We did this last year with all 5th graders, all 2nd graders, and some 3rd graders (our current 3rd graders and 4th graders), and it was a success. Essentially, students will eat in their current assigned large group spaces, as well as in some hallway areas, and students will use their towels, as they do outside, to eat picnic style, 6 feet apart from others.
We will continue to make our final lunch and recess decisions by 11:00 a.m. If you would like to know our decision, please call the main office after 11:00 a.m.
As always, children are also permitted to leave school for the lunch recess hour. Parents need to come to the main office and sign out their child(ren). Students would remain home for the full hour of lunch/recess, which runs from 11:40 until 12:35 (Wednesdays from 11:15-12:10).
