Giant pandas
Endangered animals of asia
Description
They are mammals and their body covering is fur which is very soft. Pandas weigh about 300 pounds and are about 4 to 5 feet tall. Their head-body length is around 150 to 190 cm. Tail length is about 10 to 15 cm.

Habitat
The weather can be foggy and cool which helps the bamboo grow and allows the panda to survive.
Pandas sleep on the grass around trees and always sleep with their babies so they won't leave. Sometimes the pandas live in the trees (mostly bamboo trees). Unlike other bears pandas don't hibernate.

Food chain
They are also both a predator and prey. They are a predator because they eat bamboo stalks, grass, sometimes small rodents, and musk deer fawns. Their prey are leopards, but they only attack the young pandas.

Adaptation
Giant Pandas have a very large head and muscular jaws for eating. The Giant panda's molars and premolar teeth are wider and flatter than many other bears. Since their teeth are flat it helps the panda grind bamboo.
The panda's thumbs are a modified wrist bone that allows the panda to grab onto the bamboo stalks. Pandas like to eat with their hind legs stretched out.
They are very good at climbing and are efficient swimmers and allows them to escape from prey (leopards and poachers)

Threats & conservation efforts
There are many poachers that are trying to kill them for their fur because it is so rare and soft.
The Chinese government has been trying to save these bears and since 1988. The increase was from 1100 to 1590. Most of the giant pandas have been taken care of at reserves so the population is growing slowly.
