United In 4th
9/3-9/6
This past week we were able to begin our academics... the fun stuff! Take a look at what we worked on in 4th grade:
Language Arts
- Students reviewed flexible centers. We had to practice the procedures and review expectations and we did it through practice. Students read the story, Going Batty, and used time order words to sequence and summarize the story. Students practiced summarizing fiction by identifying the important details in the story.
- Students got their first word study list of 20 words! They followed the VCCV pattern. Students identified the pattern and broke the words into syllables.
- We reviewed types of sentences specifically interrogative and declarative. Students worked on changing a give sentence into one or the other.
- Students took their i-Ready reading diagnostic.
Math
- We started using First in Math! Students were very excited to get started. We completed the fact fluency tests for Addition and Subtraction. The goal is for each student to master their fact fluency for each operation and achieve 100% on their Goals Index. I will go over this more at Back-to-School Night.
- Students took their i-Ready math diagnostic.
- We started reviewing place value for our until on place value to the millions place.
Back-to-School Night is on 9/11at 6:30pm. It is for parents only. We will learn more about what to expect in 4th grade and will review policies and procedures.
To help you stay organized:
- I will check my email each morning before 8:10am, again during specials at 10:05 and during recess & lunch at 12:05. If you need to reach me outside of these times, please call the school at 610-719-0240. You can also leave a message with Ms. Robyn.
- Students will bring their green communication folders and their assignment books each night & should return them to school the following day. When students arrive to school in the morning, they are responsible for putting them in the blue bin by the white board. This will help me gather important paperwork.
- Binders will primarily be kept at school. We will use them to organize classwork and projects. They will be sent home on occasion and should always be returned the following day.
- Monday is B-Day, and students will have Music.
