ABC-CLIO Staff Edition
After clicking on any of the databases, you can login in the upper-right hand corner to use the staff edition. Username: mightyvikinglibrary Password: Vikings76
What does staff edition do?
You can search for correlating articles and activities by standard. After logging in to the staff edition, you will choose Academic Standards on the left under curriculum alignment. From here, you can choose your state and specific standards. This will lead you to activities and articles related to this standard.
Choose Academic Standards from Curriculum Alignment.
Choose our state and a grade level.
Choose a standard in its entirety or a more specific sub-standard.
Under the standard, you will find Course Essentials, Support Materials, Activity, Discussion, General Resources, Media, and Documents, which you will find on the left. (See the example below.)
What else can ABC-CLIO do outside of the Staff Edition?
There are all sorts of writing activites on ABC-CLIO that students can access. Look under the Perspectives tab in any databases.
Once you've clicked a topic in Perspectives, you will find many materials on the left.
The menu includes a key question that introduces the topic, need to know information to understand the background of the topic, different dilemmas or perspectives regarding the topic, and finally, there is investigate and doing more. These two links are great for investigating and close reading the key question. Students will have to answer questions about the key question while also having to go back and read the articles to answer the questions. There are also more writing-geared questions.
INVESTIGATE EXAMPLE
You can also just search a term and click on the Perspectives tab in the search results.
