You are NOT alone! Read the excerpt below from a Roosevelt staff member whose family is facing their own challenges...
We all experience a variety of emotions in response to uncertainty like we face now. Each of us, especially children, are likely to be experiencing worry, sadness, and anger, among other feelings (I know I am). To counter this, my family has emphasized the importance of finding and celebrating things we are grateful for.
Science has proven our brains change in positive ways and we become markedly happier when we practice gratitude. There are countless ways to practice gratitude (ex. journaling, writing thank you notes, simply thinking of things you're thankful for); I want to highlight what we've started with our 3-year-old at home. Every night, as part of our bedtime routine, we ask each other "What made you happy today?" Through our modeling, he sees us show gratitude for moments in our day, members of our community, and each other. And the best part? His answers have made us laugh and cry (in a great way), and he's insisted that we start guessing what made his 11-month-old sister happy, too.
If in this chaotic time you struggle to add one more thing (and I get it, I'm in the yellow zone with ya), I'd strongly recommend finding even simple opportunities for you and your family to express gratitude. Try sharing what makes you grateful at a set time each day - around the dinner table, before bed, or whenever else you can fit it into your routine. It only takes a few seconds, and adds so much to our lives! ~Tom Mitchell, Roosevelt School Counselor and dad to two beautiful kiddos
Important Information
I miss you all terribly!!!! Hang in there, stay strong, and tell yourself that together we can do this! Here's some important information to share with you:
~ NO SCHOOL on Thursday, April 9 or Friday, April 10. We'll "see" all the Raccoons back to learning on Monday, April 13.
~ Staff Calling: This is just a friendly reminder...it is very likely that when staff are calling you and your kiddos the number they are using will appear as "No Caller ID" on your phone. Please answer when your phone rings; you can always hang up if it's a spam caller, or have a helpful, productive conversation if it's a Roosevelt staff member! :-)
~ Photos: As your kiddos are working on learning, or doing something exciting, please feel free to share a picture with me, and I'll add it to the weekly communication. It'd be a great way to share with others how time is being spent AND get to see some friendly Roosevelt faces! Email is best: ahagge1@isd77.org
~ The Roosevelt playground continues to be closed, including the basketball courts.
I will leave this information in here for another week just in case you need it:
~ Food Service: Just in case you missed this in Superintendent Petersen's daily updates, here's really important information regarding food distribution if you are in need but unable to get to the food pick up sites. Families who are in need of assistance to access our nutrition program are asked to complete this form.
~ Technology Resources and Support: District 77 has a family email tech support email set up and ready to go

Email: familytechhelp@isd77.org
Also, here is information about Reduced Internet should that be a need for your family. At this time, we are not currently offering the option to purchase a device protection plan. If the device breaks/ stops working, we will support you in fixing the device. If the device is intentionally damaged, MAPS will work with your family to provide you with the costs. The process would work similar to student use of library books.
If your device is broken:
Please send in Helpdesk Email (FamilyTechHelp@isd77.org) to let us know you have a student with a broken device. Include your student’s name, type of device and your student’s school
We will send you a pickup location, time and date.
When the device is received, it will be cleaned. It will be cleaned again prior to being returned to you.
In this together,
Ann

Roosevelt Principal
Have you pulled out those compliment slips yet? Please remember those have an important place as students (and spouses!) work. Here are the ones I wrote today and hung in my kiddos' learning space:
