Media Center Minutes

September 2014

It's the new Media Center!

We've been doing a lot of work in the Media Center over the past few months. Last year we got a new ceiling and paint job which really spruced the place up. Over the summer, we were outfitted with new computer tables on the main floor and the balcony, increased the number of computers on the balcony, and we also got new furniture in the conference room. The new cafe tables are a big hit - the place cleans up nicely!

Even though most of the school will be outfitted with Chromebooks, I can already see that it is still pretty busy in here. We do still need desktop computers, and depending upon the assignment, they may make more sense. Desktops have faster processors for working with videos and powerful programs, and using a larger screen and keyboard helps when doing research or typing papers. Of course the wired connectivity is a big plus, along with the ability to print. So sign up online for either the Main Floor or the Balcony, but note that if only one class has signed up during a lunch block, I will automatically default you to the balcony - it's easier to keep an eye on all the kiddies who come down from VIP and the lunchroom that way. There are now 34 computers on the Main Floor, 36 on the Balcony, and 8 in the Conference Room. I've also added a color printer to the Main Floor and I'm working on getting a 3D printer. More on that when it happens!
