Hawk Happenings- 8/20/21 V.4
Hawks Fly As One

Week 1 Success
Students are back in the building and it's feeling like school again! The first week is always a bit hectic so we truly appreciate everyone's patience as we are working through nuances in our various systems and procedures.
- Most of our schedule issues have been addressed, but if you feel something needs to be adjusted or reviewed for your student please work with our counseling department.
- We normally serve around 110 lunches per day but that number has nearly doubled with all students having the ability to eat for free this year. Thank you students for your patience as we work to create efficiencies in getting you through the line.
- Buses- I recognize the bus situation has been challenging across the entire district. With a new contractor, a shortage of drivers, and moving from a 3 tier system to 2, the district and Durham are continuously working to get all issues addressed.
- Covid- While masking is optional in schools some of the best things you can do to help mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 virus is to wear a mask, wash hands frequently, and stay home when you are not feeling well. Be Cautious, Be Courteous, and Be Clean.
Do you drop off or pick up your student from school?
That's awesome. Please, please, please pull as far forward as possible when you enter the parking lot from Geist Road. When parents park right at the front doors, and there is space to pull further forward, it often creates a safety hazard of cars backed up onto Geist Road.
We will be running on a normal bell schedule this next week!

Student Spotlight- Esme Peschke
Esme Peschke has been involved in both the Construction and Auto clusters at Hutchison. She has taken 2 years of Building Trades, 2 years of Small Engines, and is in her second year of auto. In addition to being involved in the trades Esme is also an exceptional varsity athlete participating in flag football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Last spring she was selected to the region's all conference soccer team!
Esme shared that her favorite teachers at Hutch have been Mr. Moore, Mr. Boyarsky, and Mr. Shannon and some of her best memories involve the spirit assemblies her sophomore year because her class won the spirit stick each time.
Upon graduation Esme plans to attend the University of Alaska Fairbanks for a year to get some of her basic courses out of the way. She then plans to tranfer to a school in New England and obtain her teaching degree. The degree is fitting for Esme's personality as she is often found helping support other students and serves as an Ignition Mentor.
Esme's mom shared, "Esme has always been friendly and kind, she has always sought out ways to help others. She has loved playing sports at Hutchison every season, always striving for improvement and never quitting. She is so happy wiht her classes at Hutch! Mr. Moore and Mr. Boyarsky have been two of her most favorite teachers and she loves Mr. Oppe's sense of humor. She has had a second mom in Momma Taylor and grown through the teaching and caring of her Hutch family."
Congratulations Esme Peschke!

The current PTSA officers would love to hear from you about what you'd like to do, how you'd like to engage, and what you hope to accomplish through the PTSA. Please share your thoughts via this form.

Sports Are Currently Happening
Hutchison does not have men's football. Students interested in playing football may play for their boundary area school OR may choose to play for Monroe Catholic High School if they live in the Lathrop boundary and want a smaller school setting.
All students involved in Alaska School Activity Association (ASAA) sanctioned activities must complete all eligibility forms and have a recent physical. Physicals are good for 18 months prior to the first practice.
* All electronic paperwork must be complete in https://www.planeths.com. Both the guardian and student are required to complete this process which takes approximately 15-30 minutes.
* All outstanding fees and fines must be paid in order to participate. Check your PowerSchool account. Fees may be paid online.
* All freshmen are automatically academically eligible to begin fall activities. All 10th-12th grade students must have earned a 2.0 GPA during the Spring 2021 semester to be academically eligible to participate.
