WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Homework will resume next week-Folders and weekly reflections will be sent home on Friday January 18th.
- Language Arts -Unit 5-Advancements in Technology! Click here for the parent letter. The essential question we will be exploring is, What is the value of innovation? Over the next five weeks we will be exploring how different technologies have been innovated. This week we will be reading the text, Alexander Graham Bell: It talks!" and From Telephone to Facetime. We will be working on identifying key details and determining the main idea, using text features to aid comprehension and comparing texts on similar topics.
- Writing -Students will be writing a narrative from Alexander Graham Bell's point of view describing the meetings with Emperor Pedro II and President Hayes. Students will use details and facts from the texts we read in class.
- Spelling- Words with the VCe syllable pattern. The spelling words we will look at are: broke, huge, June, arrive, whole, telephone, celebrated, wire. With this spelling pattern, words that end in this pattern usually have a long vowel sound and a silent e.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials and context clues to define domain-specific vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in their writing. Some of the vocabulary words we will focus on in this week's reading include: communication, electricity, invent, telegraph and telephone.
- Math -We will continue to work on UNIT 3: Problem Solving with Multiplication and Division. Click here for the Unit 3 parent letter. The big idea of this unit is how multiplication and division are used to solve real world situations. Continue to practice your multiplication facts at home!!! We will also be working on solving multi-step word problems. Students will solve each problem by identifying the given information in the problem, understanding what they are solving for and correctly solving it using the appropriate operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division).
- Innovation: We will move into week 5 of Innovation Block 2. Students will be working on Engineering in the classroom. Students will participate in various engineering activities such as coding, typing, stem challenges and much more!
- 7 Habits - Habit 1: Be Proactive. As we come close to the end of the semester, students will be looking at the goals they set and thinking of how they can finish the semester strong to meet those goals!
If you have any box tops at home please send them in! We collect box tops in the classroom all year long!
