Dance

Welcome to Dance KB, 1B, 2B, 3B, 4B, and 5B!!


A Look Ahead: Kindergarten through 2nd will explore the concepts of locomotor and non locomotor movements in dance. Students will explore this through the four seasons and creating movements for each season. 4th and 5th graders will finish creating their musical dances. Students picked a musical and song to create their own version of.


Highlights from Last Week: I am loving watching all the students get more and more comfortable with creating their own movements and dances. Can’t wait to see what they create this week!


Reminders: Please remember if your child has dance to wear clothing that is great for moving while still keeping in mind the NCCAE dress code.

Drama

Welcome to Drama Class with Mx. Flannery at NCCAE!


A Look Ahead:
Next unit is "Using the Voice." Talk to your child about how they can change, articulate, project, and imitate characters with their voice.


Highlights from Last Week: Last unit was "Telling a Non-Verbal Story with an Ensemble." Ask your child what they learned about creating tableaus (frozen stage pictures) in small groups based on "Max Celebrates Cinco de Mayo" (K-1) and "Keep Dancing (2-4)."


Reminders: Ask your child what they can do to earn an owl buck and help the class receive a star to earn 21 Stars for a class party. Bring a photo of yourself or of you and your family for the Drama Class wall.

General Music

A Look Ahead: Low vs. High, The Voice is an Instrument, and Rhythm

Kindergarten will explore the "highs and lows" of music. First and second grade students will explore the music of the human voice. Finally, 3rd- 5th grade students will explore the wonderful world of rhythm even more! They will learn abut the eighth note, sixteenth note, and rests.


Highlights from Last Week:

  • Our younger grades learned about how the steady beat and rhythm are different in music. Ask your student if they like steady beat or rhythm more!
  • Our older grades dived head first into the world of rhythm through sight-reading and composition exercises. Ask your students what their favorite rhythmic note is!


Reminders: Continue to encourage students to work towards classroom goals and rewards.

Visual Art

A Look Ahead: Analyzing artwork, textured paintings, conceptual art


Highlights from Last Week: drawing faces and figures, composition, friendship bracelets


Reminders: Students considering applying to School of the Arts should be saving all artwork in case it is needed for portfolios.

Physical Education

.A Look Ahead: Students in grades 3-5 will be doing 'Fitnessgram Testing. Students in

K-2 will be learning about locomotor and Nonlococomotor movements.


Highlights from Last Week: Students played a game called Rock, Paper, Scissor.....Jump.

Students worked on the skill of jumping while playing in a fun fast paced team game.


Reminders: Students should wear sneakers on the day they have PE class.
