Roosevelt Wildcat Weekly
March 25, 2022 Information for our Families
Dear Wildcat Families,
Happy Friday! As we head into Spring Break, we wanted to take this moment to thank you for your continued support of our Roosevelt Family. We hope you and your family have a relaxing break.
Just a reminder that COVID-19 kits were sent home with students on Thursday, March 24th. We need everyone's help to test 24 hours before returning from Spring Break on Monday, April 4th. If your student tests positive or has any symptoms associated with COVID-19, please do not send them to school. Instead, call the school office for next steps. Thank you for helping us keep our students in school.
See you on Monday, April 4th!
RMS Administration
RMS Award-Winning Yearbooks!
Did you know that we have a tradition at RMS of creating award-winning yearbooks? In 2018, our yearbook won First Place and Best in Class at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar. Our yearbook class has a small staff of 20-25 7th & 8th graders. They learn journalism skills, including interviewing students and staff, writing informative stories and captions, and how to use cameras and online software to create our school's Yearbook.
3 on 3 March madness was a big hit last Friday!!
Shoutout to Mrs. Catellanos and ASB students for making it happen! Also, we would like to give a HUGE shoutout to our very own RMS Teacher Basketball Champs, Greg Anderson, Daniel Guerzon, and Craig Parrott! They hustled on Friday after school at the RMS March Madness put on and organized by RMS ASB under the supervision of Mrs. Castellanos. There were teams of three, music, snacks to purchase, and enthusiastic fans! What a great way to end a busy week with a win for staff!
1st place winners...the teachers.
2nd place winners (rainbow raiders)
3rd place winners (THE BALLERS).
Watch out Air Jordan!
ADMIN staying to cheer on the RMS kids.

"Monochromatic Landscapes" from Mrs. Brayshaw's Art Basics class
A monochromatic painting is one created using only one color or hue by mixing white (tint), black (shade), or gray (tone) to create values. A silhouette is the image o a person, animal, object, or scene represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black. Students used both a monochromatic color scheme and silhouettes to capture the scene of a location they would like to visit.

spring pre-festival concert
The spring pre-festival concert was to prepare our students for their performance at the Poway band and orchestra festival in April. We shared the concert with Mr. Dulaney and the Vista High School Wind Ensemble. The students will be graded at the festival, so we had Dr. Shannon Kitelinger from SDSU give the students feedback on their performance.
The students did an excellent job and received terrific feedback from Mr. Dulaney and Dr. Kitelinger.

Health and Safety Update
As a school community, we need your help to ensure that we can safely keep students in school and minimize the number of quarantines we might need. If there is a family that is waiting on the results of COVID tests, please keep your student home until the results come in. If your student is not feeling well, please don't send them to school.
Please refer to the VUSD COVID-19 Case Dashboard for updated information on COVID cases. The Dashboard is updated by 7:00 pm daily.
A few other reminders about protocols:
Notify us immediately if your child or any member of your household becomes ill with COVID-19.
Please keep your child home from school if they have ANY of the symptoms listed on the decision tree guidelines (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea).
Have your child vaccinated. Remember, your child will not need to be quarantined if they come in close contact at school if they are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic. The vaccination will keep them in school and able to participate in all of the extracurricular activities like athletics, band, dance, ASB, etc.
If your child is quarantined, then they will receive support/connection with a VUSD Learning Support Teacher, via Zoom and email.
If your child is quarantined, they are to follow along in Canvas for their coursework.
If your child is fully vaccinated, they are NOT required to Quarantine at this time.

Independent Study Contracts Needed To Continue Learning During to Quarantine
The Vista Unified School District is committed to providing ongoing opportunities for students to continue their education and earn attendance credit while on quarantine. Currently, the state only allows districts to provide these opportunities through independent study, and parents/guardians must agree for their students to voluntarily participate. We need your help to sign a short-term independent study contract so that our schools can get the funding they need to maintain services for all students.
Currently, students on quarantine are marked with excused absences, but once parents/guardians approve for their student to participate in independent study during quarantine, the student will begin to generate positive attendance. Students enrolled in this short term independent study during periods of quarantine will have access to classroom content through Canvas, the district learning management system. Students can complete classroom assignments to stay current with the classroom learning and earn attendance credit. Keep in mind that when a student is marked absent, the school loses funding for that student for as long as they are absent.
Please, check your email from VUSD sent on September 24th for the personalized link. If you cannot find the email with the personalized link, please follow this link VUSD Independent Study Online Form to complete the form.
