Notes from Dr. Irvin
Your WGHS Weekly eNews for November 17
Hello WGHS Families,
We are ramping up instead of ramping down for our upcoming holiday. Last week we saw a outstanding musical put on by our students and staff. In addition, our boys' soccer is playing Friday and again Saturday after making the final four.
Our students will be enjoying the traditional Turkey Day activities next week. We are getting even closer with ticket sales, door decorations, and game prep underway. I am excited to see the renewed process and pageantry for one of the truly unique defining experiences for our school and community. While the pep rally, ChiliFest, and game are eagerly anticipated, I may be the best prepared for Tacky Day (plenty of red and white attire to be found). We invite all to join us on Wednesday night for ChiliFest, followed by our community pep rally at Roberts Gym at 7pm, and then again for the game at Moss Field at noon. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Regards,
Matt Irvin

WGHS Soccer Team Heads to State
We would like to congratulate our boys soccer team for advancing to the MSHSAA Class 3 State Final Four. Their state semifinal game is scheduled to be played during the school day this Friday, November 18, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton.
While we will not cancel school or classes on Friday, we do anticipate that a large number of students will want to attend the soccer game to support our team and community. For those students and their parents who would like for them to attend the game and have it counted as a school field trip, they will need to follow the steps listed below.
Sign up to ride a bus provided by WGHS to the game (will be counted as a field trip).
- Sign up and pay in the Activities Office at WGHS by the end of 2nd lunch (1:00 p.m.) on Thursday.
- Students must have a field trip permission form signed by a parent. The form is attached to this email and hard copies will be available for pick up in the activities office starting Monday morning.
- The cost for this field trip is $15.00 per student. We will accept cash, check (payable to WGHS), credit or debit cards in the activities office.
- The cost of the game ticket and bus ride is included. Game tickets will be provided to students on the bus on the way to the game.
- Students must attend their first two classes on Friday morning.
- Near the end of 2nd period (at 10:00 a.m.) on Friday, all students who signed up for the field trip will be dismissed from class and should immediately report to the buses which will be parked on Selma Ave. in front of the school.
- It is suggested that the students either bring a sack lunch from home or bring money to purchase lunch from the concessions at the Soccer Park.
- The buses will depart WGHS by 10:15.
- The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 and should end by 1:00 (unless it goes to overtime).
- Students attending the game as a part of the field trip are expected to sit in the designated student section.
- Students will reload the buses after the conclusion of the game and should return to WGHS by approximately 1:30.
- Students will be expected to return to whatever classes are left remaining to finish the school day.
However, IF your are planning on your student attending the game on their own and NOT as part of the field trip, then we are asking you to contact your assistant principal's office BEFORE FRIDAY so that we can be better prepared for the day and alleviate the amount of calls the offices will be dealing with on that day. By attending the game this way, your son or daughter will be accountable to purchase their own ticket through the MSHSAA website and provide their own transportation. Their absence will not be counted as part of the field trip and will follow normal school attendance rules.
Below is a list of each Assistant Principals office and contact information. Please email that office as soon as possible to let them know you are planning to check your son or daughter out of school on Friday.
