A Friendly Reminder from Our School Nurses, Mrs. Kaufmann and Mrs. Ernest:
What do FLU, STOMACH VIRUS, AND COLDS all have in common?
Answer:
1. They are all illnesses that we are currently experiencing at MMW.
2. All are acquired through direct contact with bodily secretions and/or respiratory droplets.
3. The chances of acquiring these diseases can be greatly reduced by GOOD and FREQUENT handwashing!
- Soap and water is always best but Purell and other hand sanitizers also work. Remember that when you sing Happy Birthday to yourself 2 times while washing, that correlates with the exact length of time recommended.
- Try to minimize the use of shared items like pencils and crayons, etc. When it is necessary to used shared items, use a little Purell before and after use.
- Remind everyone to cover their coughs and sneezes properly, throw used tissues in the trash and not on the floor and then wash hands.
- If you are coughing into your elbow, wear a clean shirt every day.
4. If you are sick, STAY HOME! We love you and your children, but we don’t love your germs!
5. Council Rock School District policy reserves the right to exclude children from school with the following conditions:
- -Fever of 100 F or higher. Students may return when fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications.
- -Diarrhea or vomiting during the previous 24 hours.
- -Rash with a fever.
- -Illness that prevents a child from participating in normal activities.
Experts are saying that it is not too late to get a flu shot- something to consider!
We wish you all a very Happy and Healthy Holiday Season. Don’t forget to get enough rest, eat right and enjoy the company of family and friends!
