News for the week of September 15th

Bear Theme

*Thank you for your continued help in transitioning your child into the 4K routine! We are starting to settle into these routines and we are having fun doing it!

*This week we will continue with our "Bear" theme. I hope your child was able to retell the "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" story to you this past weekend using the pictures sent home last Friday! This week we will read and act out "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". See below for a video version of this classic story.

*Next week we will begin an "Apple" theme! We will be exploring apples in many different ways. We will also begin our first letter of the week "L" using our Jolly Phonics and Handwriting Without Tears curriculum!

Handwriting Without Tears

We are continuing to learn how to hold our crayon with a correct "tripod" grasp. We have learned a song called "The Crayon Song" which helps us "tell our fingers what to do". See the video below for an example of the crayon song. This week the students will become more familiar with the wood pieces that will help us form letters. We will also build and meet a special friend named "Mat Man" at circle time!

Book Order

* This Tuesday, September 16th is the last day to place a Scholastic book order this month. If you would like to place an order online you can go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and use the class activation code GP4G8 or send back the paper order form in your child's folder.

Library

*A.M. Class- The students did a great job at their first library checkout last Friday. Please help your child remember to return their library book by this Friday in order to be able to check out a new book this week.

* P.M. Class- We were not able to go to our first library time last Friday due to the cold and rainy weather. We will try again this Friday! :) Please remember to put a Deerfield Public Library card in the envelope taped inside of your child's folder each Friday if you would like them to check out a book. You are welcome to put the library book your child checked out back into their folder each week as we willing to return them for you on Fridays.

Bus Tags

You may have noticed that if your child is a bus rider that we have attached a bus tag to his/her backpack which says their name, bus number (PM class only), and where they are being bussed to. Please help us to encourage the kids to keep these bus tags on their backpacks. This is especially important when there is a sub bus driver and we want to make sure that everyone is getting home safely.
