Cardinal Parents, Students, and Staff:
In honor of May the Fourth, "Do, or do not. There is no "try." (Yoda)
There is great power in making commitments to yourself and others. There's a big difference between, "I'll try to get my grades up" vs. "I'm going to raise my grades" and "I'll try to get to class on time" vs. "I'm going to be on time to class" and "I'm trying to exercise and eat healthier" vs. "I'm going to workout daily and eat healthy." When we use the word "try," sometimes all we're doing is giving ourselves an excuse to fail or quit before we even start.
Let's do this! Cardinal Strong!
- May 1: Would you rather be really hot or really cold?
- May 2: If you could host a talk show, who would be your first guest?
- May 3: Do you like to cook?
- May 4: What scares you most about the future?
- May 5: If you could change one thing about your personality, what would it be?
Hey, Cards!
Seniors, all TEN of your Navigation (Cardinal Connections) assignments are due Thursday, May 4. Do not delay. You've been working on these all year. This is a graduation requirement. You will NOT be able to participate in the graduation ceremony or earn your diploma without meeting this requirement.
Multicultural Night! Families, please mark your calendar for May 12 for the return of Multicultural Night! This is one of our biggest Cardinal events of the year. See the flyer below. This is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate our culture, roots, heritage, ancestry, family, etc. through food, dance, song, and fashion. This is a potluck event. Please, plan on attending and bringing a favorite dish to share.
Seniors, the Graduation Walk List is posted! If your name is on the list, CONGRATULATIONS! You are on track to graduate. If your name is not on the list, there is a graduation requirement missing and you are NOT on track to graduate or participate in the graduation ceremony. Contact your Counselor or Advisor immediately.
If you are interested in learning about how you can participate in a hands-on, in-person visit to several HBCUs, please see the flyer and videos below.
Spring AP testing will begin on Monday May 1, 2023. Students who are registered to test should arrive to their testing locations on time, well-rested and with all required testing tools. AP exams will be held on our FPHS campus. Students can view their testing date, time, and testing location posted in their AP classrooms and outside the main office. For students testing during an afternoon session, the FP activity bus will be available to provide transportation home if needed. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Plaskett-Rosario (lplaskett@fpschools.org) or your student(s) teachers. Free resources to prepare for the exam
Enjoy the latest edition of the Tuffy Tribune! Great job, Cards!

CARDINAL SPORTS!
Important Reminders:
If you still haven’t turned in gear from Winter Sports season, please get those items to your Coach or Mr. Andrews in the athletic office as soon as possible. If you do not return your gear, you will be put on the fine list until those items are returned. The next round of grade checks are happening on 4/24. Make sure you are handling your commitment to the classroom just like you do your commitment to the field/court.
Are you new to Franklin Pierce this year and looking to play a sport next school year? If you are a transfer student to FPHS you must be cleared to participate in athletics. Please reach out to Mr. Andrews for a transfer eligibility packet- it is important to do this as soon as possible so that you can be all cleared the first day of fall sports.
Are you familiar with the athletic code you agreed to? Check out some of the information below to remind yourself of important policies/consequences as outlined in that agreement.
- Student’s must pass 7/8 classes to be eligible to compete in Spring Sports. If you are not meeting this requirement when grade checks are conducted, you will be notified through your school email.
- ATTENDANCE MATTERS! Remember, if you miss 15 minutes or more of any class you will not be able to participate in the competition that day. Make sure we get to classes early and giving your best effort. This rule does not apply to medical appointments if you bring a note from your medical care provider.

HBCU Experience!
More great news for our Aerospace students!
Big thanks and kudos to Mr. Anderson for making these opportunities possible for our kids!
3 FPHS Core Plus Aerospace students were selected to participate in paid summer internship programs with Boeing. This is a highly competitive program with only 79 spots available statewide! Students selected work on-site with Boeing in Renton or Everett for 6 weeks and each receive 240 hours of manufacturing training and skill development. Congratulations to these amazing Cardinals!
Emma Martin and Serenity Ward - Boeing Summer Manufacturing Internship
This is a paid, on-site internship and includes training and job shadowing with Boeing employees, real world manufacturing and industrial maintenance experience, and employability skill building and career navigation support. Emma and Serenity will network with Boeing leaders and meet new friends while learning in-demand skills that can lead to incredible opportunities.
Kaidan Khamnouane - Boeing Alumni Leaders Program
Kaidan participated in the Summer Manufacturing Internship with Boeing in 2022. This year, he was selected as an Alumni Leader. Kaidan will have a leadership role during the 2023 Core Plus Aerospace Internship and will be a floor coach and training assistant, participate in hands-on manufacturing training and be matched with a mentor, have an opportunity to job shadow in areas tailored to his interests, be a liaison to the Workforce Development team for his assigned group of interns, and participate in small group discussions with manufacturing leaders.

- What is Title 1? Title 1, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to states and school districts to meet the needs of educationally at-risk students. The goal of Title 1 is to provide extra instructional services and activities which support students identified as failing or most at risk of failing the state's challenging performance standards in mathematics, reading, and writing. The Title 1 program will provides students with extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom. The program serves students in our five secondary schools who have demonstrated that extra assistance is needed. Learn more HERE.

NEW Performing Arts Center!
We are very excited about our new Performance Arts Center! We are in eager anticipation of the day that we can fully showcase the talents of our band, orchestra, choir, drama programs, and so much more!
- Part of the "cost" for a new Performing Arts Center is going to be a little dust, a lot of change, and even a few inconveniences. Please, bear with us as we work through the "under construction" phase with an estimated completion date of the start of the 2023-24 school year.
- Student and Staff Parking: All staff and students must park together in the parking lot alongside 112th St. The section nearest the tennis courts is reserved for staff parking. The section nearest the stadium is reserved for student parking. Students and staff must drive all the way around the school to access the new student/staff parking lot. Please, do not cut through the drop-off and pick-up zone to park.
- AM student drop-off and PM student pick-up and zones. See updates above.
- Main Entrance: The former main entrance to the building is no longer accessible. The new main entrance is on the south end of the main building near the student pick-up and drop-off zone.
- Handicapped Parking has been relocated to the stalls in the drop-off zone nearest the new main entrance.
- Bicycle Parking has been relocated to the 1400 building (outside the band classroom).
- Pedestrians in the drop-off and pick-up zone should use the pedestrian walkway along the fence line.
- As with all construction projects, almost everything is subject to change. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
