We hope all of our JHE families have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. We are grateful for our JHE community and the opportunity to work with your children each day. Rest, relax and enjoy the week off with friends and family. We will see our Hawks back on Monday, December 2nd.

Core Essential for NOVEMBER: HONOR
HONOR-Letting someone know you see how valuable they really are.
The animal is the Rhinoceros and the color to wear on Tuesdays during the month of NOVEMBER is GOLD.

JOY-Finding a way to be happy, even when things don't go your way.
The animal is the Otter and the color to wear on Tuesdays during the month of DECEMBER is ORANGE.
Hayes Elementary Annual Food Drive
Hayes Elementary Annual Food Drive is early this year!!!
The Hayes Elementary Annual Food Drive benefiting the Houston Food Bank will start on Monday, November 18 and continue through Friday, December 6. Due to the late Thanksgiving holiday, we will collect food the week before and the week after Thanksgiving.
This is a wonderful opportunity to give to those who are less fortunate during the holiday season. Below is a list of food pantry needs:
· Canned tuna or chicken
· Pancake mix and syrup
· Vegetable oil
· Dried beans
· Jell-O and pudding
· Fruit Juice
· Pasta and rice
· Flour, sugar
· Crackers
· Personal care products
· Laundry detergent
· Diapers and baby wipes
· Toilet paper
A collection box for donations will be placed near the PTA table near the front office and on each grade level hallway. Student Council Representatives will deliver all donations to Maud Marks Library on Friday, December 6.
Hawk Haven Bookstore Update
For the next few weeks, Hawk Haven Bookstore will be closed. During this time the bookstore will be adding new books to our inventory. Hawk Haven will reopen on Tuesday, December 10th.
Healthy Hearts: Healthy Minds
The Elks Club National Hoop Shoot Contest is a contest for boys and girls ages 8-13, must be in age range on\before April 1, 2018. The students participate and advance through the local, district, state and national competitions. Katy has been participating in this event for well over 30 years. Our students will be able to sign-up in class after fall break and participate during class on the week of December 11th. Start practicing your free throws!!!
Box Tops are back! JHE did an awesome job during our last collection, collecting over 5,000 BT’s! GREAT JOB HAWKS! The competition is not over just yet! Another collection date is coming in the spring. During the holidays keep an eye out for products with the pink label!! Go to www.btfe.com for additional information!!
CONGRATULATIONS to our homeroom BOX TOP WINNERS—Mrs. Tritico, Mrs. Teter, Mrs. Houy, Mrs. Cashion, Mrs. Wojcik and Mrs. Laney. These classes will receive a 30 minute extra recess.

Library Lowdown
Our annual Breakfast with Santa is coming up on Saturday, December 7th from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. All RSVP’s must be returned to the Library by Friday, November 22nd. We need the numbers before we leave for Thanksgiving break so that they can be given to the caterer. There is also a copy of the invitation attached here.
Calling all volunteers! We would love to have you help set up our awesome book fair on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 20th. We are also looking for volunteers to assist with book fair during the week of December 2-6. All volunteers receive a $5 coupon to use at book fair.
We are excited to offer a new payment option for book fair this year. It is called Book Fair eWallet. Here are the directions on how to get information and set up an account for your child. Of course, payment by cash, cards, and checks will still be accepted. This is just another easy option.

Music Notes
FOURTH GRADE PARENTS:
4th Grade Musical - “Go West!”
Thursday, November 21, 2019
9:00am – for JHE staff and students
6:30pm – for family and friends
WHAT TO WEAR
Boys - western or plain collared shirts and jeans
Girls (except Clark’s Homeroom) - plain blouse and longer skirts (mid-calf is fine) - Girls may put their skirts on over their jeans /shorts once they get to school
*Only Ms. Clark’s homeroom girls should wear jeans and western/plain shirts
Speakers - a more detailed note was sent home with your child about what to wear the day of the show and what is being provided by JHE
The students have been given several suggestions for shoes such as boots (for both girls and boys) and flats (girls). It is not a requirement, but it helps to create the look of the time. Bandanas and cowboy hats for the boys are also fine. Girls can use shawls, aprons, bonnets or a straw hat to complete their look. Simply have your child wear the outfit to school the morning of the show.
WHEN TO ARRIVE AT NIGHT
Speakers - in classrooms by 6:00pm
All other students - in classrooms by 6:15pm
HOW TO ORDER A VIDEO
Robert Land Productions will be exclusively videotaping “Go West!” at the evening performance. You can order a video by completing the attached form and returning it with your payment to your homeroom teacher or you can order online. See the attached form for more information.
