Spring Brings New Books!
Thanks again, Auburn Washburn Foundation, for your generosity, and for making these purchases possible for our students!
Students Connect with Author Liesl Shurtliff
During the 30 minute Skype session, Liesl shared her experiences with the writing process with our students. She also gave them writing tips that the students can apply to their own writing. She emphasized that writing can be hard, even for authors like herself, and that it is important to keep working at it. When asked what his favorite part of the Skype was, Bryce replied, "I liked that she shared her writing process with us--all the way from where she gets her story ideas to how the revising stage is her favorite."
After our visit, the students wrote Thank You messages to Liesl, using Padlet, an online bulletin board. Check out the students' messages below. We appreciate the time that Ms. Shurtliff spent with us and look forward to reading more of her books!

It's a Wrap for Student Led Book Club!
It's been a real pleasure working with this group of students and getting to talk books with them. This club was started last year by two then 5th grade students, Marianne and Autumn, and they have continued to help plan and lead the meetings. They have even lined out their successors for next year! Thank you to all the 6th graders who participated in the book club. We will miss you next year!
Thank you, Volunteers!
We have seven adult volunteers that come weekly or bi-weekly and six 6th grade students who act as Library Leaders every other week. Tasks that our volunteers so eagerly help with include shelving, book check-in and check-out, making copies, preparing supplies for library classes, helping with library decorations, and basically anything else we ask of them. Our library wouldn't be the same without them, and we love the fun element they add to the library atmosphere. Thank you for choosing to spend your time helping us out!

Take Your Can to School Week
A major contributor to the food drive was Schwerdt Design Group and Schwerdt Contract Interiors. Sam Stanton's mom (he is a kindergartner at WE) works for Schwerdt Contract Interiors and organized a friendly competition between the two groups. A huge thank you to them and to our students' families for making the service project such a success!
