Mary Cassatt was born in Allgheny City, Pennsylvania. She lived most of her adult life in France. She studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for education. Her father is Robert Simpson, and her mother was Katherine Kelso Johnston. She was in the Impressionism movement. She was not the founder, but she participated in 4 Impressionist exhibitions.
