Mrs. Sprow's Classroom
What's Happening in Reading!
BOOK NOTES: We believe that practice makes better readers. Read your book for 15 minutes every night and fill in the book notes.
READERS WORKSHOP: We use a readers workshop approach to reading. Mrs. Sprow reads awesome chapter books and teaches strategies that we practice in our own reading! Some of the books we read are Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, Rules by Cynthia Lord, Wild Man Island by Will Hobbs and Woodsong by Gary Paulson
READ NATURALLY: Students work on the computer to read non-fiction articles to practice fluency and accuracy. Students work individually on different articles to meet their fluency goals. They answer questions concerning main idea, literal questions, vocabulary, inferential questions, and short answer questions.
CEEI WRITING: CEEI stands for Claim, Evidence, Examples, Identify. Students respond in writing by making a claim, providing evidence, going back into the text to cite two or more examples and close their writing by identifying with the character.
