ASSIGNMENT RESOURCES AND TIPS
DISCUSSION: Survival of the Fittest
- Don't forget to cite your sources to earn full credit!
- Make sure when you respond to your classmates that you post AT LEAST a 6 sentence response. "I agree with..." or "I disagree with..." is not enough to earn full points for a response. You must say why you agree or disagree and back up your reasoning.
QUIZ: Introduction to Evolution
- Make sure to read and take notes on all of the information covered in this quiz BEFORE you start the quiz.
LAB: Natural Selection Virtual Lab
- The handout for this lab can be found on page 3 of the module. Please be sure to you read the rubric to help you earn full points on your lab.
- This site (https://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/default.aspx) is a great resource for creating a graph. Excel is also a popular choice. This VIDEO shows you how to create a graph with Excel.
- You will turn in the pre-lab answers, data table, bar graphs (with labeled axes), and discussion answers.
QUIZ: Evidence for Evolution
- Make sure to read and take notes on all of the information covered in this quiz BEFORE you start the quiz.
PROJECT: Geologic Time Machine
- The handout for this lab can be found on page 6 of the module. Don't forget to read the rubric on the last page of the handout so you know exactly what you need to do to earn full credit!
QUIZ: Mechanisms of Evolution and Speciation
- Make sure to read and take notes on all of the information covered in this quiz BEFORE you start the quiz.
LAB: Allele Frequency
- The handout for this lab can be found on page 8 of the module. Don't forget to read the rubric on the last page of the handout so you know exactly what you need to do to earn full credit!
- This site (https://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/default.aspx) is a great resource for creating a graph. Excel is also a popular choice. This VIDEO shows you how to create a graph with Excel.
- Q: How do I fill out the data table for this lab?
- A: For this lab, you'll mark the beans - 50 with "F" and 50 with "f". Mix them up and randomly pick 2. If you get FF, put them in a container marked FF. If you get Ff, put them in a container marked Ff. If you get ff, put them in a container marked ff.
Number of FF individuals will be the number of beans in the FF container divided by 2.
Number of Ff individuals will be the number of beans in the Ff container divided by 2.
Number of ff individuals will be the number of beans in the ff container divided by 2.
Number of F alleles will be the total number of "F" beans you have in this generation.
Number of f alleles will be the total number of "f" beans you have in this generation.
Total number of alleles will be the total number of beans in this generation.
Gene frequency of F will be Number of F alleles/Total number of alleles.
Gene frequency of f will be Number of f alleles/Total number of alleles.
After the first generation, run the "simulation" again, except "throw out" all of the beans that were in the ff container. Each time, when you do the simulation again, always "throw out" the beans in the ff container. Over time, the Gene frequency of f should get smaller and smaller.
DISCUSSION: Biological Resistance
- Make sure when you respond to your classmates that you post AT LEAST a 6 sentence response. "I agree with..." or "I disagree with..." is not enough to earn full points for a response. You must say why you agree or disagree and back up your reasoning.

TEST: Evolution
- Check the feedback on your three quizzes from this module BEFORE you begin the test and review those weak areas BEFORE you begin the test.
