NISD to provide free meals for students during Thanksgiving break
Northside ISD is working to address children’s nutritional needs by opening campus cafeterias during Thanksgiving Break, Nov. 23-25.
“When school is out, often times kids will go hungry,” said Thomas Wherry, director of Child Nutrition in NISD.
To assist with meeting our students’ nutritional needs, NISD will be serving free curbside lunch, supper, and breakfast for the next day to all children 18 years and under during Thanksgiving Break. Children from the area communities are also welcome; you do not have to be enrolled in a NISD school.
Pick up time is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participating schools are Fisher and Ward elementary schools and Pease MS.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Travel Guidelines Issued
In NISD, students or staff who travel internationally (includes Mexico) are required to quarantine for a period of 14 days upon their return. An individual may also complete a COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test upon return from international travel and if the result is negative, they may return to school/work prior to the 14 days.
Students who are quarantined may continue their learning through asynchronous, or virtual, means. Currently, there are no restrictions on domestic travel, however, all domestic travelers are reminded that even though you may not have specific COVID symptoms, you could still be contagious to others. Be mindful of any COVID-related symptoms and report these to your health provider as soon as possible.
Third Grading Period Selection Survey Now Open!
Northside families will be asked to complete a survey beginning Nov. 16 to indicate which learning model they choose for the third grading period or third quarter (Jan. 4-March 19). As with both previous surveys, the two options for students include in-person or virtual learning.
An email containing the link to the survey will be sent to parents the morning of Nov. 16 and families will have until Nov. 29 to make their selection. All families will need to make a selection using the survey including those who wish to remain in their current learning model.
For more information regarding the learning models, including a side-by-side comparison, visit our Back.Together.Better website.
