Report cards and promotion
Listed below are the New York City Department of Education Promotion Standards for Grade 6, 7 and 8. It is most important that you and your child understand these criteria. They will be the basis for promotion this coming June. Discuss the significance of this information with your child and contact the appropriate teachers.
The standards for each grade are listed below:
Grade 6 and 7:
Each student’s performance over the course of the school year will be reviewed to determine if the student has demonstrated sufficient progress toward meeting the Next Generation Learning Standards in ELA and math.
This review will include multiple measures of student performance, such as State test scores, course grades, report cards, samples of student writing, projects, assignments, and other performance-based student work. State test scores may not be the primary or major factor in promotion decisions.
Grade 8 Promotion/Graduation:
Each student’s performance over the course of the school year will be reviewed to determine if the student has demonstrated sufficient progress toward meeting the Next Generation Learning Standards in ELA and math.
This review will include multiple measures of student performance, such as State test scores, course grades, report cards, samples of student writing, projects, assignments, and other performance-based student work. State test scores may not be the primary or major factor in promotion decisions.
AND
Students must pass all core courses (ELA, math, science, and social studies). Students who do not meet promotional criteria will not participate in the graduation ceremony.
Please note – Proficiency Levels for NYS ELA/Math exams are as follows:
1. Below standard
2. Approaching the standard
3. Has met the standard
4. Exceeding the standard
.
PLEASE MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO CONFERENCE WITH YOUR CHILD’S TEACHERS IF YOU ARE CONCERNED THAT YOUR CHILD IS NOT MEETING HIS/HER PROMOTIONAL CRITERIA. TEACHER’S CAN BE REACHED THROUGH GOOGLE CLASSROOM AND VIA EMAIL THROUGH WWW.IS75.ORG UNDER THE STAFF TAB.
Sincerely,
Mr. Zapata
Principal

新年快乐 / 新年快樂 XĪNNIÁN KUÀILE HAPPY NEW YEAR
Lunar New Year is known as chūnjié (春节), or Spring Festival. While it’s the coldest time of the year, it marks the turn-around in seasons, when people begin to look forward to spring (and in past references, new planting). It symbolizes new beginnings and fresh starts.
To our students, we are wishing you much academic success and progress in this new year!

Family Game Night
Dear Paulo Families,
Family Dinner Night, the initial rollout of our Paulo Families Campaign, was a resounding success. Our next initiative is Family Game Night. See below and the flyer pictured for details.
How to participate in three easy steps:
1. Schedule a day over the next 10 days (between Jan. 20 and Jan. 29) and put it on the calendar.
2. Set out some games in preparation. When in doubt, charades is a timeless classic- no set-up required.
3. Set the phones aside, get in the competitive spirit and put on your game face, but remember, it’s only a game focker! J
And if you want to earn an easy service credit, snap a family photo and upload it to this Google Form. The form will close and the opportunity to earn a service credit will end on January 30.
For questions/concerns, please contact our parent coordinator, Ms. Taccetta.
We hope you will partake, and enjoy an evening with those closest to you!
