Sunday Shakedown
Weekly Memo for Washington Elementary
Principal Post
Every parent’s wish is that their child has a happy learning experience at school. Because of this, I wanted to reach out to you and give kudos to your teachers and especially Mrs. Bragg. My son Nick started school at George Washington this year as a 4th grader. It is his first time in public school and honestly he was quite nervous to be entering into a larger environment. He didn’t know what to expect as far as curriculum, rules, students, etc…. Every day we wait patiently to see how his day has been and what he has been learning. Last week he said he was very impressed with his teacher because she was actually teaching and he was understanding. Yay! Yesterday he came home and I asked him the usual question of how was your day? His reply was “GREAT!” He was beyond excited to show me his Patriot ticket that he earned. He was so proud of himself and couldn’t wait to share his good news with everyone in his family. (You would’ve thought that he had just received one of Willy Wonka’s golden tickets!). His experience so far this year has literally brought tears to our eyes that our child is so happy to be attending school, participating, and learning. Many times as educators we can forget that those smiles, small tickets, and words of encouragement can make such a huge difference in a child’s life. Thank you to you and your staff for being all that to our son!! You have totally validated our decision to place him at George Washington.
Keep up the good work and know that whether you see it or not...you are making a difference to families. Thank you for placing emphasis on relationships and resources for children at GWES.

● DEADLINE FOR ANNUAL TRAINING: SEPTEMBER 3 ,2018
You should have received an automated email from Safe Schools with a link to login to the system. You will not need a password if you use this link. Your trainings will be on the home page. Alternatively, you can use the SafeSchools link on the staff page. You will login with your KCS email. You will need to enter the last four digits of your social security number as your password if you access trainings through the KCS website. If you have any difficulty with the login, there is a "forgot password" link that can help re-set your access.
- Please remember that fundraising sites like "Go fund Me" ,"Donor's Choose" and "Fundly" are not allowed in KCS. No KCS employee raising money for KCS, your classroom, or school events can use these sights to raise funds. Secondly, if you are applying for any kind of grant you must follow KCS procedures. This means that you complete an Intent To Apply form. This form starts the process with the district to "register" your fundraiser and clarifies any district wide concerns with a particular grant or grant funding. You may not apply for a grant unless this form is completed accurately, returned to ASC, and gets Board approval. Amy Doran (378-2174 ) can answer any follow up questions.
- Please use the following Google form to submit your idea for a club you would like to sponsor. I believe the leadership team agreed that most teams preferred Friday as the club day, again at 8:30-9:10. Start day to be determined.
- You will recall from med training that we need to teach our students what to do in a medical emergency...find the nearest adult and report what you see. When you have completed this (by August 30) fill out the following form by August 30:
