Principal's Message
Hello Tornado Families,
I want to thank you all for our amazing start to the school year. Not only is our average daily attendance up by more than 20%, our major discipline offenses are down nearly 5 to 1. In my heart of hearts, I know we can credit this to our students and families who have put a focus on education. In addition, our staff has been working to build a culture of belonging for all students. As we enter this new season, we want to congratulate our fall athletic teams. Not only are they having a tremendous amount of success, they are each having record turnouts. We are also proud of the turnout in our clubs. Yelm High School FFA is now the largest chapter in the nation. We expect to see similar trends in the arts. I am looking forward to the upcoming Band and Choir concerts, and Drama productions.
The school spirit and dress up days last week during our annual homecoming celebration made everyone smile. The 800 students that attended had a great time. Our Homecoming pep assembly was one of the best that I have experienced as a HS Principal! Thank you to the staff and students for their organization and school spirit! It was fun being able to see our students eager to participate. It was an EPIC week to be a Tornado!
Our students are now three weeks into the semester and learning habits are being established. Please support your student by checking Skyward Gradebooks regularly and keep an eye out for communication from your student’s teachers. Courses are now set, and we should be thanking our counseling staff for their work to get everyone scheduled appropriately. Speaking of your student's teacher, we want to remind all students that each teacher has their own unique set of expectations. Those expectations, including cell phone usage, should have been communicated in the course syllabus. In addition, teachers have the right to have a student removed if behavior is impeding the learning environment. Again, open and clear communication between you as a family and your child’s teachers is the best way to succeed. It is better to stay up to date instead of having to catch-up. Our administrative team is here to help. Please check with your student’s teacher if there are any questions or concerns.
