Tips From the Office...

Attendance Matters

One of the most important things students can do to achieve success is also one of the most basic: attend school every day and on time! Students who attend school regularly achieve at higher levels than students who do not have
regular attendance

Please remember to call or email the office if your student will be absent for any reason. If your student needs to leave early for an appointment, let the office know before the school day if possible. The office will provide students with a pass before school begins to avoid classroom interruptions. You can email the Edison Attendance Office at SFSDEdisonAttendance@k12.sd.us

Student Council

Student Council would like to thank each and every person who helped us raise funds for Heartland House. Through donations and our STUCO store, we were able to donate not only tie blankets, but also $500 to Heartland House. This month, in honor of the Super Bowl, we are going to be collecting canned, boxed, or non-perishable food items to donate to the food bank and Feeding South Dakota! We will also donate a portion of the funds raised at the STUCO store to Feeding South Dakota. Over the next four weeks, each Wednesday will be dedicated to “Sports Dress Up Days!” Wear a jersey, dress like an athlete, wear something band related, college/university shirts, and get into the spirit of sports! As always, thank you for your continued support! Together, we are making a difference. Together we are better!

8th Graders Heading to High School~

High school counselors will be coming in to talk to the 8th graders about registering for high school soon. The Edison music department encourages all of our 8th graders to STAY INVOLVED IN MUSIC in high school!

High School Band Auditions~

Students are not required to audition for band classes and marching band at the Sioux Falls public high schools. However, students may choose to audition for an upper level band class instead of the normal Freshman Band. Audition music will be available for LHS in mid-December and for RHS after Winter Break. Students are encouraged to get help on their music in private lessons or from Mr. Jensen/Miss Deinken.

Private Lessons~

Now is a great time of year to consider starting private lessons on your instrument/voice. Individual lessons with a skilled teacher are a great way to learn, grow, and excel as a musician. The private lesson list can be found on the Edison Music Dept. website at http://emsmusicdept.weebly.com/private-instructors-list.html

Ensemble Schedule~

Jazz Band meets on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 7:45 – 8:45 a.m.

Brio meets on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:10 – 8:45 a.m.

Inventions meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45 - 8:45 a.m.

Library News

A Reminder about Library Fines

  • We do not charge late fees at the EMS Library. The only time your child will be charged for a book is if it is lost or it is damaged to the point that it must be replaced.
  • Each student at Edison has the opportunity to work off one fine per school year. Students are credited $2.00 for every half hour they work in the library.
  • If your student has overdue books or fines, they are unable to check out books until the fine is satisfied or the books are returned.
  • If your child has an overdue book or a fine from another school, the fine can be paid or the book returned to Edison. We will get the payment or book to the appropriate school.
